Biscuit Chucker: Ahem, one look at safety record statistics about now would probably prove a point.. If you can't follow directions as required by your carrier (as pointed out in your conditions of carriage), we are more than happy for you to enjoy the carrier of your choice 100% of the time)... it's not that we think our SOP's are the best and only methods, but that's what we are required by law to do, so we do it and don't take any whinging whining excuses about "but this airline does this, and that airline does that?!" If you can't do what you're required to do, go and have a chat to the ticketing office..
If it's the law, it's the law and I respect that you have to follow it. And as PAXboy says, there are some advantages to it (as well as disadvantages). But it doesn't mean that it isn't a bit unusual.

Anyway, QF has its own little inconsistencies and quirks. Take, for example, using phones on the aircraft before departure. The one that made me laugh was when it was OK to use phones on board until the doors were closed - but only on CityFlyer (fat Australian domestic trunk route) services. Safety reasons still apparently required phones to be off before entering the aircraft on all other QF flights, whatever the equipment. Yeah, right.

Also, it may be skating on thin ice a bit to invoke the Aussie safety record here. It's second to none, and rightly so - but largely because of flight deck culture. Cabin crew performance isn't necessarily the same when it counts - it came in for a bit of criticism after the BKK accident.

And it's only on QF that I've seen a flight attendant still wheeling a trolley along the aisle at the moment of touchdown, when she (rightly) put the brake on and waited in place, half way down the aircraft, until the end of the landing roll. That made me laugh. (I still hope they didn't get into too much trouble for that - they were very touchy about it afterwards.)

Everyone seems to be having a go at Qantas.....but has anybody actually thought about the fact that Qantas is still the only airline in the world that has not crashed??????????????????? It had an emergency landing a few years back but no one was hurt.

And being Australian myself, I take offence to the Australians being Australians comment.... I have worked for AA and british airlines, none of them are perfect!!

Hi guys,

Just my tuppence...

being a pax on a flight doesn't remove the requirement for basic manners. I don't undestand pax that consider CC to be slaves or objects for abuse.

All down to rearin'...

It is not unknown for some pax to feel intimidated by the Crew into not using the call bell for anything less than a requirement for coronary surgery, and I think that this is unfair. In my experience, some Crew have a real problem with call bells, and are inclined to make pax feel guilty for using them, and this shouldn't be the case. If I hear of members of my Crew doing this, I tend to have a chat with them after the flight.
Hi,
I was on a Thomas Cook Airlines flight last Sunday and this was the first time I have ever used the Crew Call button. My Sister was feeling a little sick so I required an extra sick bag. As soon as I pressed the button a Cabin Crew member immediately assisted me and my Sister with no problem at all. She proceeded straight into the toilets and came back with a few sick bags and continued to check on my Sister. I must say this flight had the best Crew I have ever experienced!

Thanks

You called...?

I've never used the call button.

Alot of PAX seem to forget that a little manners goes along way, some of the attitude I see from passengers is quite frankly, disgusting.

If I ever want anything, I wait until it's quiet and I get up and ask for it. I have never been repremanded by any cabin crew for doing that.

I always tidy up after myself, it takes me 10 seconds to my bit, but if you are crew and have to do 50 seats, it will take alot longer. In fact, it has not been unknown for me to stay behind and help tidy up the aircraft if the inflight service has been good and I'm on a connecting flight with a long wait. At the very least I make sure the crew get a "Thankyou"!

Please check your facts. I would suggest you refer to a book by James Sinclair, "Balus", to check QF accidents and their results. Aircraft registrations are nominated.
