Nice One F.O.R........
"I wonder if the owner would take $50K for her?" 'Tell 'im 'e's dreamin'...... :} |
Jaba,
I don't think I could take $50k, much as I reckon you're a good bloke and all. There's a bit more to this painting caper than one would think... Looks good though, doesn't it. Rego in the tail in colour now. Now I'll have to do the interior  It is going back to work next week, so it won't look this good again :{ 185 |
Painted
185 ... Can't wait for MFU to be at this stage again, just have to plod along for now ! Post some more pic's when she's ready ?
|
It sure is as sexy as she has looked in years :ok:
So how many engines per paint job does she get? you get through engines faster than most.... must be a spectacular ratio! |
Jaba,
I reckon it was painted in the 80's or early 90's by Douglas's. They did a top job with prep, as we had very little issue with the surface once stripped. I've had it since 2005 and am on the last 3rd of it's 3rd engine. At that rate there will be quite a few engines for this paint job. Cheers, |
So that is around 5,200 hours in seven years - good utilisation, good economics but certainly not excessive.

C310B VH-REK
Hey Skywagon,
The pics of REK brought back memories as at the time it was owned by a Gold Coast opal miner. I did some time on this & one other "straight-tail" 310, TTM - prawn spotting) in the period, apart from a heap of other model 310's before & since. Could tell you a tale about how REK became Coolangatta Tower one night. Cheers. Ben [email protected] |
Only just :}

Still sleek and graceful nearly sixty years later. We are fortunate indeed to have her in our skies .....

DF,
The DEH uses their own machine these days, unfortunately for me. I'll get back down there one day. |

Pianoman, your photo is half out of focus ;)
Gee look at all that corrosion, I guess that's inevitable on a float plane  and that's what we can see, I'd hate to start digging behind the scenes. |
|
Gee look at all that corrosion Having been a float pilot in a previous lifetime, just wipe your hands, and don't put your wet, salty feet all over the rudder pedals! |
The green fluff all around the switches is surface corrosion, look closely at the pic.

A couple of pics I have taken recently at Tyabb YTYA

And the '180' would be at Langley Park..?? :ok: |
CAC Sabre:
Memories! What great photos! About that shot of the MMA F.27 taxying in (you can almost hear it screaming, can't you?) - the Friendship is either VH-MMR or -MMS (I believe the only two F.27's to wear the orange/chocolate scheme and MMA titles), the DC-3 in the background is VH-ABR while the two Beech 65's are VH-CFI (nearest the camera) with VH-CFD behind. The only one I never got to fly was VH-ABR.... |
Terrific pix 'cac' thnxs:ok:
That RAF Comet 4( I think) is a great shot :ok: All those 'T' jets looks like at EN obviously pre 1970 as I think Tulla opened to dom traffic in 1971, anyone? As a kid I was a couple of miles from EN other side of the valley, I didn't have a chance back then, wish I had had camera. Wmk2 |
Wally:
I think you're right about the domestics shifting to Melbourne (Tullamarine) in 1971. My log book shows a flight out of EN on 18th June, followed by a flight out of ML on the 20th. Love that EN tarmac shot - it certainly was a very busy & crowded apron. |

Lovely phots C_S, with the best being the first one you posted:) Nice that you captured the best of the RN's squadrons (although there is one forum member who may disagree). 1988 I think.
