Apparently it was started about 35+ years ago. It's a few km east of Brukunga in the Adelaide hills - an old copper mining location -and adjacent to an off road motor cycle park. Near enough to S35.00, E 139.01.

Full story here.

PS There are /were rumours of a house close to the threshold on the approach to R23 at ADL whose owner had painted "F***K OFF" on the roof - no doubt as a gesture of delight at the somewhat irregular air shows which he / she was privileged to experience. :p

Used to get students to navigate to that Adelaide "land mark"

gerry111 3rd Mar 2013 13:24

Stikybeke, you sure had me thrown with the "JESUS LIVES" being seen when on a commercial flight out of YADL. I'd never heard of that AD before so I checked ERSA. Adele Island ALA in WA. Unlikely terrain, I thought from the photo.

I think that you meant YPAD..:=

Square Bear 5th Mar 2013 10:17

Stickybeke

Next time I pax out of ADL I will ask for a seat on the side you suggest.

Gerry3

Not that sure we really needed your willy wagging emicon to understand that Adelaide was being discussed.

Fantome 5th Mar 2013 10:53

During the big nationwide advertising campaign of the early 80s that was all over the media you had the 'LIFE BE IN IT' slogan everywhere.

A farmer even
started writing it with his header through his sparse looking (seasons had been bad) crop a few miles out of Cowra.

Only what he really started to write before he hit the fence and had to stop short was -

LIFE BE BUGGE . .. . .

gerry111 5th Mar 2013 13:52

Square Bear, please don't take offence! The comment was made with my
tongue planted firmly in my cheek. Stickybeke is a welcome
contributor to PPRuNe. But I haven't noticed any of your contributions before.

So, have you ever been a pilot? Which, I understand, means that one has
actually flown an aircraft solo? I have.

If you were flying a GA a/c equipped with a (say GNS-430) Nav/Com/GPS, and entered YADL direct to fly to Adelaide you would be in big trouble.

And that's why this sort of detail is rather important. :ugh:

donpizmeov 5th Mar 2013 14:41

Gerry, You must be a ball of laughs to have a beer with. A good grasp of the big picture I see. And good on you for going Solo. We are all very proud. :ugh:

Wally Mk2 5th Mar 2013 22:09

I wanna know who this guy Jesus is, I here a lot he 'lives' so where the hell is he these days?:E I know he was a pilot as I have heard is name many times in the cockpit especially when things aren't going too well:E

Gerry I think most prudent drivers would not blindly track direct to anywhere unless it made sense especially distance wise.
GPS's are fantastic contraptions but unfortunately they have made a whole new generation of out of the loop and lazy pilots in some ways.

Square Bear 6th Mar 2013 10:46

Gerry111
No offence taken at all.

Am just glad for this thread, never "paxed" that often out of YADL so was unaware of the photo op, appreciate stickybekes kind suggestion of what side of the aircraft I should sit on.

I understand that there is also a similar type deal near YASP :),
That being the YASP that is to the north of YADL.

Cheers

Hey guys,

Thanks for your support but Gerry's right, YPAD it is...I should've known better but like I said, the pre-flight refreshments got the better of me!!!!! Happens every time!!

No offence whatsoever taken aside from that as self inflicted by yours truly for a period of 2 or 3 minutes. You'll be pleased to hear that I'm a wiser person for the experience and all better now...

:ok:

I beg to differ..... how about 2 Merlins http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/wink2.gif
You may well be right - I've think I've only twice had the privilege of hearing more than one in the sky at the same time (Spitfire + Hurricane at Wanaka a while ago now, and more recently 2 x Spitfires at Temora), much less two (or four) in the same airframe.

Somehow I still lean towards the crispness and purity of 12 synchronised exhaust stacks as a solo instrument, however a duet will still be worth an ear to the sky :ok:

Thanks for the pic of the duo Mustang BTW. I'll read up on it - be interested to know who's the PIC.

I see your two Merlins and raise you five Merlins, at Wings Over Wairarapa recently! (now wait until someone posts a photo of one of those mass warbird fly-pasts from a Northern Hemisphere airshow! ;))

Besides Wanaka, you need to go to the USA, namely Oshkosh then

XXX, you need to read my post a bit more carefully as someone worked it out easily enough.;)

Nice looking C185 I saw today.

I wonder if the owner would take $50K for her?

Could do with a clean up inside, looks like the inside of a game box :E

Owner must love her though :ok:
