Thanks for the link to the photo Phil:ok: RIX is long gone from WGT but I don't know where it ended up. I think the last owner from SA was the original owners son, but don't quote me.
I used to fly that old girl out of BLA long time ago. fastest 310 of that model I have flown. Actually it was serial No 00001 if I recall The first of the Q models but didn't have an omni rear window funnily enough.

Funny off subject story about this old girl but worth a laugh now.
I picked it up from MB one day after it had some new avionics fitted & when I did an ILS back into EN I got a lousy display of the ILS signal (all over the place & not my flying, this time!) & with an awful radio reception thrown in. Once on the ground I had the local radio guys there take a quick look at it & they found that the Glide Path antenna ( I think in the nose cone) & the VHF wiring where ass about.....& that was just fitted that day!:)
Am sure all the derelict planes rotting away out there have many stores to tell:-)

"DF"I think SAO was an ex 'rufdus' plane........anyone??

HL

You let a 21 yo fly the 421?

Horatio Leafblower 4th Aug 2010 13:07

G'day Sprock

purely merit based, if he couldn't handle it he wouldn't have got the gig.

Gave him the endorsement in May, he got into Jetstar in July :ugh:

Wally Mk2 4th Aug 2010 13:26

..........and you where surprised HL? I'd figure if a 21 yr old could handle such a beast (the old clunker 421) then good chance he's just passin'thru:)

'howie' I thinkyr right VH SAQ was the ex rfdus plane not SAO, well done:ok:

yowieII 4th Aug 2010 14:59

Hey Wal I do recall when the new owner took charge of SAQ out of the service and I must say it was PRISTINE, and continued to be so for a while so after. Only got to play once or twice with it but was definately one of the better :ok:

Wally Mk2 5th Aug 2010 02:02

Sorry 'yowieII' I listed you as 'howie'...:)

I just went back a few of log books & sure enuf there was SAQ in ink forever!:-)
I thought I had flown that machine & yes was a nice Eg at that.
If I recall I took SAQ to Sth Ozzie (Airline of SA) for a few weeks & flew back & forth to "Port a gutta"..........ahhh those where the days :ok:
Oh boy the stories could go on 4ever but better not someone will complain about thread hijacking!:}

Is that 'Centurion' P2 Neptune still at CUN..??

goin'flyin 5th Aug 2010 03:11

I was at YCUN a couple of months back and the neptune was still there then. Didn't look like going anywhere anytime soon either.

This one should be familiar to Ardmore regulars; actually in better condition than the photo suggests. Most of the missing parts are in storage in the containers in the background.

The last Andover at Whenuapai; photo taken in 2007 but as far as I'm aware it's still there.

The MiG-21 which was on the southeast apron at Ardmore for a long time - since gone.

Would that MIG be the same one now in the Wanaka museum?

CharlieLimaX-Ray 5th Aug 2010 07:45

On one of the properties out in western NSW, a very nice Cherokee 180 sits in a shed. The aircraft was sold new to the property owner in the late 1960's, and was flown up until the early 1980's and then parked due a downturn in the rural economy.

NZFlyingKiwi 5th Aug 2010 23:37

No, I think the one in the Wanaka museum is a different MiG. The Ardmore one eventually went to a Christchurch vodka bar as a display piece, and somebody almost immediately stole the canopy off it, but I'm not sure what's happened to it since, whether it's still there or not.

remoak 6th Aug 2010 02:37

That Mig above is for sale... it will be listed on Trade Me on the 20th of August (it will be sold through Turners Auctions on Trade Me).

QF had a small fleet of early HS125s for pilot training back in the late 60s/early 70s. My father flew them a bit - wasn't impressed with them at all.
Sorry, haven't been paying attention.........

http://www.adastron.com/707/qantas/mvh-ece-f-1.jpg

HS-125 VH-ECF and VH-ECE. They had several modifications to make their handling approximate that of the 707 under certain conditions. The rudder bias system was provided with an adjustment so that it could be made to simulate the foot-force required in a 707 with one or two engines out. The Qantas HS-125 also incorporated the artificial horizon and the Collins navigation system from the 707, but otherwise it was a standard HS-125.

They were also used for US aircraft repair flights, carrying LAME.

DCA also had a number of the earlier DH-125 varients, one of which VH-CAO landed wheels up 24JAN67 at Avalon, Vic.

Re: 310 at WGT

There is a 310 with its wings removed down the back of the Mooney hangar at WGT. I think it is the one that used to be parked out the front.

Fris B. Fairing 21st Aug 2010 00:28

PA39

I'm hearing that the YCAB Duke has gone to a new owner (in WA?). It may have flown away already.
