Inactive Aircraft

What have you all seen parked up and no longer flying in your travels around DG&P.

Not the stuff sitting in a museum but parked up in a shed or left in the paddock? maybe suitable for restoration projects? spare parts?

:ok:

There's an RV10 in a hangar at Caboolture!

I hear the owner has abandoned it and run off to the USA. :E

VH-XXX 26th Jul 2010 16:51

That RV10 would be eminently suitable for parting out.

IO540 (low time)
GNS530W
GMA audio
Dynon 7 inch x 2
dynon autopilot and servos
garmin 296

The rest scrap metal value.

Back on topic, I know of a Queenair that's probably not going anywhere any time soon. It's flyable but hasn't flown for years.

BULLDOG 248 26th Jul 2010 21:19

Thanks for the heads up guys. As from 3am I'm the proud owner of a nice shinny RV10 Canopy which will look great on my dad's home made XC710 ??????
Back to topic...As XXX said Queenair, Aztruck, Gonad, Dove/Heron seem to be the norm in AUS...

bizzybody 26th Jul 2010 22:59

Aerostar WGK at Bankstown. Had a long history of sitting down not flying

Wanderin_dave 26th Jul 2010 23:16

XXX - It would be a game man that got airborne in that Queenair!

I reckon there's a Tiger Moth in bits at virtually every small strip around the country.

Nose wheel first 26th Jul 2010 23:50

There are a few old hulks that have seen better days in Charters Towers..... Also an old 402 in Roma which could do with a paint job, a couple of engines, an interior and tail if I recall correctly.

There is (or was a few years ago) an old Cherokee 6 sitting in someones yard in Kununurra.

Not long ago I also saw a house out in the woop woops which was made from what appeared to be the front 2 thirds of a DC3. If anyone has a spare set of wings and the back third.........

Edit: I just remembered.... heard a whisper that there is at lease one 207 in KU and maybe even a 210 which haven't flown for a couple of years.

The Green Goblin 27th Jul 2010 00:29

I remember when I was younger and naive whilst completing my CPL. My instructor and I taxied past a particular operators fleet. I asked him what they were doing with all those old abandoned aeroplanes once they are no longer flying. He laughed and told me it was xxx's fleet!

I'd say there are a few fleets across the country in the same league :ok:

Peter Fanelli 27th Jul 2010 00:36

Wasn't the government planning to house boat people in housing made from old C209's?

I've often wondered how the PA-31 bigots here would feel if they were expected to fly all the Queenairs that were around back in the day.

PA39 27th Jul 2010 00:38

The Beech Starship is sitting in the compound at Caloundra. I agree Peter!

My hearing was never the same after the Queenie era!!

RatsoreA 27th Jul 2010 00:50

Whats got two thumbs and happy to have have only flown once in a Queenair??

:ok: ME! :ok:

Ok, obviously a better visual joke...

Isn't that the one in Aviation trader being advertised as buy two PA60's, build them into one flyable one for $100,000?

Starship... Splooge...

spinex 27th Jul 2010 01:02

BE33 at Toowoomba, been there so long it has taken root!

There was a Spitfire (80% scale modern homebuilt) lying around at Boonah, Qld for ages too, it even featured in the flt sim add on scenery, however it seems to have quietly slipped away of late.

Jenna Talia 27th Jul 2010 01:40

Cherokee 6 at YBTH.

Wanderin_dave 27th Jul 2010 02:19

How about that Bandit up against the fence at EN? On that note, there is/was one at Maryborough QLD for a looooooong time.

Atlas Shrugged 27th Jul 2010 03:15

Is the MIG still at Goulburn?

rmcdonal 27th Jul 2010 03:51

Is the MIG still at Goulburn?
2 in Bathurst and a Cherokee 6 parked next to them.

Wormole 27th Jul 2010 04:39

Queenair sitting at Bridge Pa Hastings, hasn't flown for at least 10 years.

The Green Goblin 27th Jul 2010 05:24

There is a Shorts 360 at Alice and sitting next to it used to be a certain Piper that had a run in with a hill during a bit of bad weather :}

I wonder what ever happened to the aeroplane and the Pilot the rumour at the time was he had lost his licence after a run in with the CASA and abandoned his private aeroplane. I would love to know more about that one!

There was an aerostar in Northam that saw the ugly side of a C172 with a new Pilot at the helm and it never ceased to amaze me at the amount of perfect condition 182s that were laying around in sheds on stations that had not flown for years, had no MR and no-one could fly them :ugh:

There used to be a Mooney parked on the side of the road in a paddock in the southern suburbs of Perth. Don't know if that is still there, always wondered about it's history! It was painted bright yellow.

VH-XXX 27th Jul 2010 05:38

What happened to the old aircraft that were at Wallan, like the Dove?

RatsoreA 27th Jul 2010 05:43

Guessing games

Which 'industry whore' now sits abandoned and in bits at Yarrawonga...

No hints, it will be to easy...

PA39 27th Jul 2010 06:11

The only industry 'whore' that comes to mind is the old "Pig"....Piaggio??

RatsoreA 27th Jul 2010 06:14

Nope... Keep guessing...

I can't say anymore, as soon as I do, someone will get it...

:}

Howard Hughes 27th Jul 2010 06:14

A couple of AG airframes (not sure what they are) sitting on the grass near the RFDS hangar at Dubbo!

ForkTailedDrKiller 27th Jul 2010 06:17

There are a couple of Boeings parked at Longreach that don't seem to have moved for a long time! :E

chimbu warrior 27th Jul 2010 06:28

RatsoreA 27th Jul 2010 06:30

Twin. And no more help!! :P

On Armadale Rd....... Yep still there.
Use to be an old DC3 as a kids play ground at a Maccas in Midland, but that went a few years ago. I believe it ended up in a mini series or similar on the ABC. Static only though.

There is a Cherokee 6 (I think) on the Dive Trail in about 7 mtetres of water down at Rockingham.

ForkTailedDrKiller 27th Jul 2010 07:21

There is a Mooney Super 21 (VH-MWB) in the drink off Newcastle somewhere!

Oh, and an A36 in bits in a hangar at Redcliffe!

Now that one IS inactive! :E

Dr :8

On eyre 27th Jul 2010 10:32

Try one EMB-110 sans engines (undercarriage three 44 gallon drums) at YPLC (VH-LNC) that was cannibalised by some misguided f***wits to keep their ego driven FNP flying. Crying shame to see it every day - was a great aircraft.
About time it became a useful wreck on the sea floor to attract the schnapper!

Chimbu chuckles 27th Jul 2010 10:36

hey Dr - at least its MY temporarily inactive A36:E

Outtahere 27th Jul 2010 10:40

C441 (ex Oaa?) at Mtg. Rego & former operator blacked out.

Any idea who owns it and whether it is airworthy? I might have a task for it ;)

Well preserved, though salvage logistics are rather difficult.

I don't think she'll be going anywhere to quickly Remoak:)

Oh and I think it's a 330 not a 360. Ugly looking thing whatever it is.

Peter Fanelli 27th Jul 2010 12:38

Looks like a Beaver.
Now that's just begging for some contradictory photos, but alas that would be the end of the thread.

RatsoreA 27th Jul 2010 12:38

I remember once when I was just a little pilot being stuck at the oaks outside of Sydney and there was some small jet with very faded qantas colours…

Anyone know its story?

And if no one guesses my other one by tomorrow, I will answer it.

Chimbu chuckles 27th Jul 2010 12:56

QF had a small fleet of early HS125s for pilot training back in the late 60s/early 70s. My father flew them a bit - wasn't impressed with them at all.

remoak 27th Jul 2010 13:07

Oh and I think it's a 330 not a 360.
Yes that's a 330.

The old Valiant is probably worth more than an engine-less 330!
