Carlton Hill? That looks like House Roof Hill in the background.

Ovation - I'm thinking Home Valley airstrip?

Instead of where, how about ... What the....
Clue: Sydney. http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviatio.../2/0956225.jpg Note: if you go to the link, it will give it away. Dog |
Would there be a B727 also parked nearby, with a huge hole in it's guts?
|
Aye Aye Cap'n.....Ar rekon thar wud be........:ok:

Hmmmm a local clouted a Canadian on the runway many moons ago! Lucky escape for all involved!

Close, very close! Heres someones new toy taken at Broome. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...2/PIC_0594.jpg |
In that case I'll take a stab at Emma Gorge, looking south west?
|
|
Yep, I'm thinking Emma Gorge too. Although, there's a couple of strips around there that could fit the bill. I'd have to get out of bed and rat through the log book to find them.
|
Morno,
Birdsville during the races? |
Vee1, you would be correct.

Great Photo

Ovation
...it's not on the highway into Newman and about to hit a road sign? :ouch:
|
Hey redsnail, I'd be hedging towards Emma Gorge as well. Although I am (like yourself) talking about ancient history since I last landed at Emma.
By the way does Emma Gorge strip still have a massive dip in the middle and on T/O do you still have to check for traffic on the Gibb river Rd, to ensure you don't put your wheels through the roof of an unsuspecting 4wd? ps redsnail do you still remember doing drop offs at Home Valley and then as a rat pack hooking through the gorges in the Cockburn Range on the way back to Kunnas......ahh...memories. |
Emma Gorge it is! The lens exaggerates the strip profile a little.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...2/DSC01021.jpg |
Sarcs, sure do! Ahh the good ol' days. (cos we weren't good nor were we old) :ok:
Nowadays I just fang around the Swiss & Italian Alps. :D |
Not to mention checking for traffic on the road up to the Gorge itself. Many a time I've rolled onto final to watch a britz troopie hooking up the road at warp speed straight past the 'stop/slow down and check for aircraft' sign. Even had a AAT Kings coach park on the threshold once while waiting for our arrival...
Nice photos Ovation. |
Emma Gorge is not that bad a strip to land on, but it's tight turning around in a low wing because of the vegetation either side. Saw somebody ding a wing back in 2003. Nice place to visit - the new accommodation is very civilised.
Pictre taken overhead Emma Gorge - when the owner saw this shot he was somewhat embarrassed. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...DSC01079MA.jpg |
Nice Mooney Ovation. Yours? Nice aircraft.
|
Sprocket check - the Ovation in post #3862 (page 194) lives in QLD.
This is my toy: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...2/DSC07342.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f.../DSC07367M.jpg |
mmm, must be fun. Well, I found out something new the other day-Mooney had something to do with the development of the TBM 700 and 850. Anyone know what? (I know, thread drift, but this is the most casual thread on PPRUNE).
Here is my favourite view, people used to say that about Melbourne. Best view of BK (or Sydney for that matter) is out of your rear window on departure. sc http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3023/...5b78cb.jpg?v=0 |
Its not the one thats been in the "hospital" in Townsville is it? Something the FTDK has posted before, and I saw while up there. Lovely machine with gravel rash on its belly!
|
hey what's with all these mooneys" ugly things they are:E kidding ok.
The other day ATC asked a pilot what's the A/C type ( he was @ FL150, he said Ovation doing 230 kts (across the ground)!!!! NOWAY that's insane for a piston job! speed is not evrything, looks is though:E Damn I wish I could post some pix here, never works for me:{ CW:) |
I'll bet the owner was embarrassed - someone's painted out the registration on the underside of his wings, which he evidently didn't notice during the preflight! :E
Ovation has the right idea with paint though - colour the bottom of the plane to match the dirt, and you'll look a whole lot cleaner!:D |
Any guesses for what and where?
The second photo is just a clue for location... http://www.miraz.com/misc/IMG_5078.JPG http://www.miraz.com/misc/IMG_5152.JPG |
Just spent an hour or so going through this thread very enjoyable.
This one should be easy. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...l/100_5459.jpg heers Rat |
Miraz, the first shot is a Spartan Executive, and if it is the one I am thinking of, it lives at Pine Mountain Lake in California. Beautiful machine, and the R-985 adds a special sound to it!
|
I may be wrong Miraz, but that sure looks like TB-863, the Mk.XVI Spitfire ex-NZWF on the left (lower aircraft) of the formation, which would place your images somewhat closer to Temora, I reckon! Not sure of the 1st image, but she sure looks like a gorgeous machine!
In fact, I think you might find this is her, as shot in NZWF c1990 http://www.dh82.com/images/TB863-web.jpg NB: image is severely reduced in both size & quality! |

hey what's with all these mooneys" ugly things they are kidding ok. The other day ATC asked a pilot what's the A/C type ( he was @ FL150, he said Ovation doing 230 kts (across the ground)!!!! Otherwise, it might have been this one - it has been active in the last week or so: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...2/DSC01151.jpg It's a 2008 Mooney Acclaim and has the turbo-normalised IO-550. It will cruise at 235 KTS at FL250 with a fuel burn of about 20 USGPH. |
|
RAT PATROL - looks suspiciously like Forrest SA.
|
ovation, that's Mooney's demonstrator aircraft is it not?
|
AussieNick
It was. It's now JSD based near Albury. Since then another M20TN (Acclaim) JEU has been delivered to QLD. |

Top pics Ultralights:ok:
The old piper has not moved much hey! So how does the cooling work on the chopper? Tell more of the story if you can! J |
Hoxton park mascot cherokee, rumour has it, it has been recently sold for a price just a bit over 4 figures!!!
as for the Angel.. http://pamuva1.smugmug.com/photos/377400654_eUjJK-L.jpg http://pamuva1.smugmug.com/photos/377402382_qchsv-L.jpg as you can see it still uses the original jabiru cooling ducts, just glassed over the fwd intakes, and a porsche cooling fan now forces air over the heads via custom manufactured ducts into the top of the original ducting. im not sure if you can see on the second photo, a bracket has been machined and attached to the front of the engine to take the drive shaft loading off the main bearings. Apparently there are 3 of these helicopters in OZ, and this one was originally powered by a Rotax 582, though it proved difficult to keep temps under control resulting in reliability issues, though now with the Jab 2200 it has plenty of power, and reliability is as can be expected from a Jabiru. oh, and they are Kit built! and the workmanship in this aircraft is astounding! |
