Anyone know where Dave is these days...top bloke!

zlin77 28th Nov 2012 10:24

Is this the same Dave Hawthorne who was in Maslings about 1980?

Capt Fathom 28th Nov 2012 10:24

Paint scheme similar to Talair!

Never seen an Islander pass a Baron before! :E

Jabawocky 28th Nov 2012 10:48

I have heard stories about it though :E

I won't spoil it....but you can guess who might tell the tale!

skywagondriver 28th Nov 2012 11:24

zlin77 - yes that's him...

Capt F & Jaba...:)

zlin77 28th Nov 2012 11:35

I don't know where Dave went after Masling..I left in June 1981, he was still there then..if I recall he had a little incident landing a Queenair at Condoblin one night....

skywagondriver 28th Nov 2012 11:41

zlin77 - thanks
Enjoy Istanbul - have a very good mate on the A330 based there.

skywagondriver 28th Nov 2012 11:45

Blast from the past...

Been lucky enough to fly two tri-motors...this one was fun even with a full load. The other was fun too but completely different operation :)

.. that pic takes me back a tad ...

gerry111 28th Nov 2012 14:34

Jaba. You're completely correct that the V35 aircrew are always substantially much more dodgy than the Bo.

But where was the hangar photo taken? If you haven't been there, you really should do it. You and your RV will enjoy the long trip.

Head west, young man!!

Jabawocky 28th Nov 2012 22:06

Have headed west a bit, YDBI today ;)

I suspect it is at Forrest but not 100% sure.

Sounds like you are a dodgy Fork Tailed driver too:ok:

Speaking of Forkie, he has been quiet....:}

gerry111 29th Nov 2012 07:49

Jaba,

Dirranbandi's a little out of town for you. We visited YLRD in the Bo on the October long weekend. Not far from there. We didn't dare cross the NSW/Qld border due to the lack of daylight saving..

You're correct. YFRT it is. Fantastic place to overnight if travelling over to the West Coast. You get your own house! The rusty old hangar was built by the yanks in about 1929. That trip was over to YPJT for the last Red Bull Air Races in Perth.

ForkTailedDrKiller 29th Nov 2012 08:51

Charlie Foxtrot Kilo is looking good!

http://i45.tinypic.com/2hdquye.jpg

Just looked up the logbook. On 16 January 1976, I was checked out on the Bonanza in VH-CFK by one Barry Hempel. Had 50 hrs dual and 100 hrs PIC in the log book at the time. 55 min later I was good to go in the Bo! :ok:

What is it about V-tail Bo pilots and droopy mo's?

The rusty old hangar was built by the yanks in about 1929.
Not so! It was built by West Australian Airways, along with the hostel, as facilities for the overnight stop for their Perth-Adelaide HP Hercules service.

Jabawocky 29th Nov 2012 09:33

I knew it would flush him out:}

And that picture......

I have seen a NZ licence and a Retard Vehicle driving version too....

:ok:

Jabawocky 29th Nov 2012 09:58

And that is his favorite shirt too.....we have countless photos of that shirt.

Now most likely a barra fishing outfit :*

gerry111 29th Nov 2012 12:44

Dora-9,

My apologies. According to a 'well known search engine', you are entirely correct.

But I'm sort of fairly sure that within the Forrest Airport Museum, that there is a reference to that the yanks either built the hangar or perhaps paid for it? I seem to remember that the yanks saw a strategic value in the airfield being there.

(Consider though, I'd probably consumed too much camel and too many reds at the community dinner the night before??)

So next time Clinton and I call in there, I'll check.

It's true Clinton is a young bloke despite his rapidly greying hair. Somehow he manages to keep his 'droopy mo' jet black...:E

I flew CFK circa 1970 when it was operated by Civil Flying Services in Moorabbin. It was a great aircraft then and looks in great nick still. :ok:

From memory there was a sister aircraft CFH as well.
