Even more RFDS a/c in this lineup.....

I'm told there was another PC12 out of shot, for a total of 9 a/c ....... any ideas where?

Jamair 22nd Feb 2011 06:18

Hey FB

In the old days, had to land on the beach out front, when the tide was out, as the opposition had the rights to use the strip and wouldn't let us..
....Wouldn't have been UnionAir would it? Seem to recall they had a tribe of Bongos and triple-bongos in and outa there.......

Before Jamair says I'm not allowed to answer, I will, :}.

That would be Mount Isa, during Cyclone Yasi....... of course, right before they all went "oh ****" and then flew them all down to Charleville, :E.

Was referring to Island Airways actually. Run then by Don Adams from his strip at Aeroasis at Hervey Bay (since closed and subdivided). His partner, Sir Reginald Barnwall, built the resort at Orchid Beach in the Samoan style (having spent time working there, and setting up Polynesian Airlines, before settling here) and would refuse permission for our small operation to come in. Most of our flights were to Bogimba, Yidney Rocks and Happy Valley for the store, and Eurong anyway. At the time Island Airways had the distributorship for Islanders for Australia and the South Pacific, they brought the first one into the region. They sold out later to Snow Richards of UnionAir, Toowoomba, and Reg went to Rainbow Beach and built the strip there. Unionair hit their straps with the sand mining shift changes from Hervey Bay and Maryborough daily, in Twotter's and Tri's to Toby's, but lost the race to build a strip at Noosa for a commuter service. We did some limited shift changing from our strip at Noosa in 6 and Islander onto the beach just south of the Cherry Venture for one small sand mining operation for a while, before and after the commuter runs to and from Bris.

Mornos - yeah, right place (Isa), but wrong person. 5 Kingairs, 2 C208G and 2 PC12, a few dollars there.

You were meant to find that hole in the ground somewhere a little further west, that one is the Gabba. And the radio mast was not those on Mt Coot-tha either :=

The picture of the Constellation take me back to the late eighties when I happened to be in Miami, Florida. Nearly every evening at dusk, a Constellation freighter would depart Rwy 05. If my memory serves me correctly it was heading for South America, and as it flew over, quite low and obviously very heavy, it trailed flames from its exhausts. I can still see and hear it now. Great pictures, thank you.

Did it fly too close to a wind turbine?

SINGAPURCANAC 6th Mar 2011 08:49

This video is something that could be considered as part of "historic heritage"

It is the first solo flight done by woman in military jet in Serbia. As far as I know it is also first woman military jet solo flight in ex-YU region(probably even wider region) .
The aircraft is Soko G-4 Super Galeb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flight was executed at Batjnica military airfield ,LYBT, near Belgrade,Serbia, at the end of decembar 2010. Voice behind belongs to squadron leader who "remind" her about, speed ,direction, stay calm and so on....

Qantas A330 landing at YMML Melbourne
Well I don't know why you'd want to post that here, there's nothing outstanding about it apart from the fact that the A330 turns into a 737 for touchdown.

ABX 7th Mar 2011 02:16

Nice pics. Did the B2 end up making an appearance?

Chimbu chuckles 7th Mar 2011 02:52
