I was trying to avoid being seen in a nose-dragger.....but have to admit that it is one sweet machine.

The appellation given by Chuckles does not reflect the delightful flying qualities, rather it refers to the nickname it deserves when flown by a balding PNG reject!

And just for the record I think Jaba's RV-10 is a spectacular aircraft:ok:

chimbu warrior 30th Nov 2009 20:26

My comments were in jest.........I am just jealous!

And the glide approach from overhead in the -10 was flawless.

Tiger is closer to my speed, although I have trouble keeping up with it at times.

BTW, the upper photo in post #6152 makes you look like der fuhrer.

Been enjoying your posts on here for about a year, particularly the ones from my area around YCAB. So now I've been let loose here's a few from my first trip with the wife from last weekend.

One of the main reasons I took up flying was for the scenery, which I think is reflected in the shots I choose to take - not least because I'm still relatively new to this stunning country and the views never fail to fascinate me.

Not too exciting but hope you enjoy...

Hi Chuck....nice pics.

Can I ask the rego of the 'Chippie'??
Looks like it could be 'RS-".
I flew most of those 'RS-' machines with the RACNSW back in the early 60's when I was a sprog.

Nice to see them still going.

Just curious is all.....
Cheers....:ok::ok:

Has anyone ever used runway 22/04 at YMMB?
Only used it once since it was shortened. Crosswind on 17 was more than I like in the Tiger so requested 22.
Some years ago the crosswind was more than I liked on any runway so told the tower that I was returning to Casey Field - they offered me 27 which worked well in the Pitts.

Old Pilots Never Die - They Just Fly Away....
(The times they were Bold - they escaped by the Skin Of The Teeth)

Frigatebird 1

Semi-Retirement (More time on the ground than in times past)
Too Young For A Pension..

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...1/scan0001.jpg

The engine was overhauled about 4 years ago, second o'haul, used about 150 hours since - still less than 4,000 hours on engine and airframe. (Only a fraction of what I have - so I win there - and I started a fortnight earlier than the old Frig 1 did too - in that September, way back when..)

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...1/scan0002.jpg

So the next project to keep old Frig 1 young, sometime, is to declutter the wires in the cockpit, bush the GPS 95 XL given me by a guy for mentoring him on a Baron (the first time I turned it on it thought it was still in Fiji) for a panel mounted Garmin 430 with an ILS/VOR indicator where the Altimeter is now, and relocate the flight instruments to the Basic T configuration, and plastic weld the holes up on the the instrument surrounds to make it look better (anyone help with a name for a good job there?). Then perhaps (if finances allow) a H.F for the long trip.

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...1/scan0003.jpg

Would have liked a 200 h.p. Turbo-diesel and C./S. prop at the overhaul, but the company that will - doesn't make them yet. So I'll just potter along, - but if fortune smiles radiantly sometime - an IFR 182 with a diesel, autopilot, and long range tanks would be nice...... Frigatebird 2 !?

and the "Go round obstacle" at the end of the strip.

After 40 years they've probably flattened out the strip, built up the approach and moved the mountain at the end. :ok:

Nice Vid Jaba, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of when I was a kid, riding my bike down to the airport at Rotto (we lived there) so I could watch the aircraft from the side of the strip.

The 185 sounds great.

I prefer to characterise it as 'Who transported the future prospects for the Dr's family name, the very fruit of his loins, to the chosen venue with the maturity and gravity such an august task demands';)
