Ok, Nivo - where is #5?

Hey Doc, you want me to find it? It'll cost you a ride in the Bo...

Done deal Sprocket!

Nivo 26th May 2008 10:49

FTDK - #5 is 'Belford', about midway between Maxwelton & Kynuna. You land on the driveway.

SC - I'll get the photographer to clean her lens next time. The problem was more with the windscreen than the camera. BTW, you know way too much!

cheers,

Nivo

Jabawocky 26th May 2008 11:11

Nivo

with the distance between stops you must be flying a Jabawocky or something?

Pretty good range in that thing!

J:ok:

Nivo 26th May 2008 11:36

Jaba,

180HP C172, 256 litre tanks, 120kts @ 35 litres/hr gives over 6hrs + reserves which is way too long for me, let alone the kids! The longest leg was home to YEML, 4hr 34min start to stop.

Only problem is the kids are still growing so it might be the last family trip in a 172 due to MTOW. Will need to upgrade to that Baron that I can't afford (yet).

cheers,

Nivo

C172
Ha ha! See Jaba - I told you so. I know a Cessna tyre when I see one!

Geez Nivo, I see why ya need that endurance - just to get somewhere!

Walcha - Emerald = 3 hrs in a Bonza!

On the figures ya quote above ya would have used 157 L.

I would have used 165 L (make that 330 L in ya Baron), checked in the the motel, had me lunch and been on the second bottle of red as you were taxying in!

Dr :8

Jabawocky 26th May 2008 11:49

Thats pretty good range...... almost asa good as the RV-10ER that I am working on.............

Nivo.....stop feedin the buggers!:}

J:ok:

PS Show us some pics of your plane too then!

4 hrs 88L in the Jab
2hrs 47 and (I dont want to know...137L) in the ARRVEE

sprocket check 26th May 2008 14:12

Nivo, you lost me a ride in the Bo. Damn, I was looking forward to it. It's been 16 years since I had my hands on one. Anyway, I can even tell you which model camera you're using. The 400 is good. Very good. Tell your photographer to learn to use the priority modes - aperture and time. You'll get great results.:ok::ok:

If I know this much, imagine what big daddy knows (can't use brother anymore, it's been trademarked).

Bendo: :cool:

I am trying to get my little sprock in the aircraft at 5 months old. The mrs just won't have a bar of it. Nice trip.:ok:

Nivo 26th May 2008 22:27

FTDK - as you know from your experience in the StrutlessDK, any aircraft is better than none. The 172 will do just fine until the opportunity to upgrade comes along.

cheers,

Nivo

Hey there Nivo! Just giving ya chain a bit of a jerk! Don't tell anyone, but I probably still have more time in the C172 than any other type. Have flown a couple of near new ones recently - quite impressive. Another one came out of the container the other day (along with a nice looking C170) - I will probably test fly it as well.

That is still a good trip in a C172!

c170 query

Hi there FTDK - just a quick question- does the C170 have a CSU?

Was looking at a photo of the intrument panel after you post about test flying one as I have never seen a c170.

Looks like a classic machine....

ForkTailedDrKiller 27th May 2008 01:47

Nah TonKat, the C170 is fixed pitch, and yes, it is a classic.

My post above is a little ambiguous. I will probably test fly the C172 but, although I have flown a few taildraggers, the owner of the C170 is more than capable of flying it himself.

Obviously flying a 172 is not big deal in itself, but its the avionics and autopilots in these things that intimidate some of the new owners, rather than the aeroplane itself. So I usually take them on a shakedown ride to make sure all the bells and whistles work.

Dr :8

slackie 27th May 2008 02:24

....'cos you're a "bells and whistles" sort of guy!!:ok::}

TonKat 27th May 2008 03:24

C170

FTDK - the reason for the query was that I found this:

Ya got that one right Tinny! The 170 only has a partial panel and no GPS!

Tonkat the secret is

Lycoming 180-HP conv, C/S Prop.
Pretty aeroplane the 170....nice compound curves.

The 170 only has a partial panel and no GPS!
Ya big girl what's that in the bottom RH corner of the panel?:ok:

If that was FTDK's 170 it would have his G496 mounted on the port dash coaming, his G396 on the starboard coaming, his PCAS on a yolk mount and his PC tablet mounted where the PIC sun visor usually lives.:E

Cause of death in any accident would be strangulation:}

Ex FSO GRIFFO 27th May 2008 08:43

I noticed 'Solid Axels' in the specs.

I would hope so....(?).......however, is this meant to distinguish the difference between a 'normal' axle and the 'crosswind undercarriage' castoring axles of some of those 170's? i.e. This one goes straight ahead...

I flew a 170 with the castoring 'crosswind' u/c in 'dem good ole days' in WA a few times, and whilst it may have been 'useful' at times, it was a little disconcerting when at the end of the landing roll, to start 'weathercocking' into the wind and end up travelling sideways...or try to use the brakes to keep straight.

Always gave you the feeling that you were about to tip over...but, it never did!

A NICE aeroplane, never-the-less. :ok::ok:

p.s. TWIN VOR/ILS ?? :yuk:

Capt Wally 27th May 2008 12:38

nice plane, don't much like the radio stack on the L/H side of the panel tho, gotta take ya hand off the steering wheel to adjust/change a radio:bored:
Forky like to see you in a C172, you would be inverted quick smart when the spam hit the fan, amazing what the brain will revert to in a time of crisis:E
