"Wannabes" are we?
Not wanting to sound like im complaining or anything but i believe this forum should be renamed. I for one am mainly a charter pilot who has been flying for a number of years .Like many pilots in auzz/ nz many of us have thousands of hrs on either 135 opps/ instructing, top dressing, executive charter,or what ever. With the current situation in Airlines im not counting on jumping into the big jets within the next 6 months! so am resonably settled in G.A. I believe more and more "expeirenced" G.A. pilots are getting more comfortable or adapting to their current jobs because they no the airlines arent gonna be in a hurry to take them on and so arent counting their chickens on aspiring to fly something like the Airbus A380 by next year???.
Many G.A. pilots now are trying to get ATPL' subjects, or other Q's such as Degrees/Aerobatic ratings,....to have an edge over someone already in or trying to get into the airline scene. There is much talent out there besides the airlines and I certainly don't see myself as a "wannabe" . Just a constructive thought. feel free also to add what you think we could rename it if the moderator agreed .
outbound.

Maybe this forum should stay exactly like it is catering to the likes of:
On the other hand, maybe the scope of the reporting points forum should be expanded to include careers in GA in Australia, of which, as you quite rightly state, there are many.
- which flight school/ATPL course is best
- Where to find the first job
- Do I instruct or go charter
- Where do I find accomm in Kununurra
- When do I do my night rating

I also object to the use of "wannabe" in this situation. Sure, we may "wannabe", but can't help feeling it is used in a denigrating fashion by most. Especially as generally the only difference between those that are and those that wanna is good luck and our old enemy, time.

OK
I am listening, or is it watching.
Good points all.
Professional Pilots Rumour Networks genesis, raison d^etre or whatever you want to call it was as a Forum for sharing Rumour and News amongst Professional Pilots especially in the context of those working in RPT.
PPRuNe like the rest of the world is changing faster than we know, and we are trying to change with it, but at the same time stay relevant with our core audience, ie Professional Pilots while yet as Professional Pilots and in the process of sharing Rumour and News help each other and those who either aspire to or have had their careers disrupted by the vicissitudes of life.
It is also the victim of it's own success and as a result has more Forums than we ever dreamed of in an attempt to accomodate the many different agendas.
Keeping the signal to noise ratio to a reasonable level for us all to be able to access quickly only those matters of interest to us as individuals is the always the ultimate aim. If you have the time then you can run down those other matters that have a specific interest to you.
Keeping it relevant is the objective.
It is NOT a matter of denigration or perpetuation of bulls hit, if it was, we would moderate out altogether anything not directly related to Airlines et al.
E.G.
A matter of concern to a budding pilot in regard to say, the cost of his instruction may not be of any real interest to most airline pilots, anymore than matters of concern for a rostering system is of any real interest to most budding pilots.
They both may hold views on the respective matters, but are they relevant.
Neither may wish to wade through countless threads to find the one that concerns them, matters in which they are interested are available in other specific forums for when they have the time.
So as a result of the huge growth in membership and to keep the various Forums focussed and relevant on their respective topics we have decided to split them, as was found necssary for Rumour and News.
Users of R & N and associated forums have benefited therefrom and would not have it any other way.
We'll monitor it for a bit more, make some judgement calls and adjustments as we see fit.
Just remember this is all VOLUNTARY and FREE so cut us some slack.

The Professional Pilots Rumour Network (PPRuNe) is a website dedicated to professional pilots and those who are considering a career as a pilot. The main focal point is the The Bulletin Board where there are over 70 forums.
Air Traffic Controllers, Engineers, Cabin Crew, Operations, Crewing and Rostering staff are also welcome as well as anybody else with a connection or interest in professional aviation.
PPRuNe was originally set up by Danny Fyne, an airline pilot with a background in computers, as a focal point for other pilots and Wannabes with access to the World Wide Web.
Since late 1995 PPRuNe has grown from a small, manually updated message board into a multi forum, fully automated bulletin board with over 13 million page views a month.
Internationally renowned as a source of news and rumours, PPRuNe is now one of the most widely read sites for pilots and airline management.
Although most contributors to PPRuNe prefer to remain anonymous, many regular 'PPRuNers are senior pilots, managers and trainers with the major airlines of the world as well as with Air Traffic Services and ancillary professions.
We aim to keep PPRuNe as simple to use and without too many graphics to keep download times as fast as possible.

Noviators ?
We could call it "Noviators" - combo of novices and aviators. You won't find that in the English language either but at least it's original!

Woomera ... I feel for you and the job that all Modbods and Admins do on here and I truly believe you are entitled to be cut "some slack", but as you've said yourself...
How relevant is it to Wannabees to have threads about instructors and, dare I even mention it ... PNG lumped in? I don't know what the real answer is but, clearly, the current arrangement isn't working.
If the plan was to model D+G after the plethora of individual forums (errrm... fora??) within PPRuNe, then maybe we need our own dedicated Flying Instructors forum here too. That would solve that part of the problem anyway. I still haven't figured out where a PNG thread should reside, but Wannabees is simply not the right place at all.
As I look at the subject headings of other posts that have been placed in Wannabees, I feel sure that there must be a better way to keep them all relevant.

Woomera,
Suggestions on Forum Names
"Reporting Points" to stay as an RPT/Airline forum
"Wannabees" to be renamed "General Aviation"....dull,boring it may sound, but that's us.
"Questions" to be replaced by a section called "Breaking News"...self explanatory really. From here, any specifics could be reposted to the other forums for discussion.
Just my 2 bobs worth
cheers

I'll be tweaking it all during the coming weekend. The forums were titled by someone who doesn't visit unless a lawyer's letter demands it.
Your local mods have been right on the ball and given us alternatives many days ago. It's entirely down to the workload here in the UK that they haven't been actioned yet. Only 3 of us have the tools/knowledge/access to do the job and it's on the list of priority stuff.

Bewdy Rob! Speaking for myself - and maybe a few thousand others (!) - I can't wait to see what the new forum titles will be! And, if they don't work out, we know to blame the Woomera mob!
