Airline Cadet Programs

Air New Zealand has just opened up their Mangōpare cadet program, who else has a similar type program partially/fully funded in return for x number of years service? Something that would be good opportunity for a NZer with < 10hours

I don't believe any other school in Melbourne has a bigger IFR training fleet than LFS: They've recently updated not one but two Archer III's (DDM and the other one) specifically for single-engine IFR training plus have plans to update the Arrow DXG to IFR also (which would make it perfect for long distance navs in typical Melbourne weather). YLIL's only downside is a lack of instrument approaches to the airfield, but YMMB, YMEN and YMAV aren't far away and you need time to set up for an IFR approach anyways.

Qantas Group Pilot Academy Selection

I am considering applying to the Qantas Group Pilot Academy to train for my CPL and I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been through the selection process or has already completed their training.
In particular I would appreciate any advice on the following:

1) What type of questions does the face to face interview entail? Is it just a HR style of interview, or is it more involved than that?
2) I see the application asks if you passed physics in Year 12. Is physics actually required to be selected for training or to be potentially offered a position in the QF Group at a later date?
3) How many recent graduates have been offered positions in QLink of Jetstar at the completion of training?

Fastest command at NZ?

I am NZ permanent resident and fresh CPL holder. Not now, but I am looking forward to applying NZ airlines in a near future.

My ultimate goal is to become a WB Captain anywhere in the world as an expat.

So my priority is occupying the left seat at ASAP Boeing or Airbus NB at NZ airline. I don't care about money or benefits etc.



So in my case, which is the best move for me? Jetconnect or Jetstar NZ?

How is Airwork or tasman 767? Do they accept NZ permanent resident?

Getting a Jet job in NZ is quite competitive compared to other countries due to a surplus of qualified pilots and limited jobs.

There is the odd exception but you’ll usually require multi crew experience before getting a look in.

If you’re desperate to get on a jet ASAP look overseas.

The quickest way to a widebody command at someone like Emirates is get yourself onto a turboprop of some description and join Emirates as soon as you have the requirements. Waiting until you have joined someone like Jetconnect and achieved a command so you can apply for an accelerated command on a widebody would add years in my opinion.

Hi there!

Essendon has a few reputable flight schools, and while each has its own strengths, you'll likely find that they offer similar quality in training. It's great that you have a convenient location! As for your question, you can definitely add an Instrument Rating (IR) to a Private Pilot License (PPL); it’s not restricted to Commercial Pilot Licenses (CPL). Good luck with your training, and enjoy the process!

Any Flight School To teach ATPL Theory?

Hello all!

I am converting my ICAO ATPL to CASA.ATPL. Ive been advised to give AOSA, AHUF and IREX.
1.Are there any flight schools in australia that teach these subjects in class?
2. What books should i refer for these subjects?
I have 30 days in my hand to go crack those exams.
Would appreciate any inputs. Thank you.

On the QGPA website, the FAQs used to say that Qantas had "General Aviation partners" available to applicants who were unsuccessful in their QF group interviews. That has since been removed from the website but I want to know more about career prospects upon graduation. If anyone has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m Stuck, Careers and advice for this 17 year old

Hi all

I’m sure this has been posted multiple times, but I’m just not sure where to start and I’ve read multiple forms that lead to further confusion
I am a 17 year-old based out of Melbourne just about to complete his RPL and have a PPL theory exam pass

I’ve applied for QGPA and have made it to the CUT-E stage but it’s been hard to maintain contact with them to start or proceed further with the selection process

I am very stuck in what to do, to go down a Cadetship road, to self fund or go to a flight school

What’s everyone’s opinions and ideas as I’m wrapping up this year’s last year of VCE in year 12?

..and in the meantime, keep up the flying whenever you can. Hour-building is a good thing and will go a long way to keeping you proficient when the time comes to move on to bigger things.

this issue is that I cannot go over 70 hours as per QGPA guidelines so I’m stuck

I passed my ATPL subjects with ATS (Aviation theory services), I think they are new but they make videos for all of them which makes flight planning extremely easy. I passed first time with 90%, three weeks of study.
