Thank you for clearing it up Speedbirdhouse and Indamiddle. I'm very grateful for your elucidation on the matter. "naming only Thais would be discrimination"....but I thought we had a base in BKK....so therefore, am I wrong for rationally assuming that "teletubbies" refers to the Thai people? Anyway, it doesn't matter and lets not get into a protracted ping pong about terms of endearment or lack of cultural awareness of The Yen Men at LH.
Speedbirdhouse....I'm not Farang ! lol
and because it is difficult to gauge a speaker's tone just from one written sentence, I thought that perhaps you may not have been aware of the secondment provisions for QAL. No need to get shirty
We are all friends here.
FAAA released a memo today stating that the company have indicated that they will be actioning a "limited number" of base transfers "through a staged approach over the next few months". I'm not sure how this will affect CR...it really doesn't solve the problem of surplus crew at SH does it?

qantas said that MAMers would solve the problem of not having a flexible workforce and that they would smooth out the peaks and troughs of SH cabin crew hours though they seem to have shot themselves in the foot with contract c. surely qf have a clause where they can inform maurice that they now only require 'xxx' number of MAM casuals, they are after all only mam employees from a labour hire company, not qf employees. this would also avoid any CR payments. a problem for maurice, not qf

I think the MAM contract for Qantas runs out in 2011 and that QF does not want to renew the contract as it pays MAM more money per hour for a F/A than it does for its own QAL F/A...hence the reason why it wants to establish its own "new entity".

i guess the extent of any planned reductions in flying will determine what happens with the number of crew required in each base. I think that the CNS base is quite safe although i think that there may be some opportunities for the FA category to transfer out of CNS and part of surplus management.
In terms of LH there is no planned recruitment at the moment to factor in the reduction in international flying. However A380's are still being delivered and that division will continue to grow. As part one LH crew cannot be compelled to go to A380 QCCA has announced that as A380s are delivered they will deploy part 2 crew to A380.
This will also assist in managing any apparent surplus in LH and at the same time provide ongoing job security to part 2 crew.
In terms of compulsory redudancy the LH EBA is clear its LAST ON FIRST OFF. No equivocation whatsoever. This would mean that the recently employed crew would be the first to go as has always been the case.
There is no susggestion at this stage that there will be a need for CR in Long Haul and Qantas is puting in place a range of initiatives to avoid CR at all costs.
This may not be the case in other areas of the flying business as there are no growth vehicles other than A380 at the moment. Even if the company decided to reduce MAM numbers these would be the first to be offered QCCA A380 positions as the new aircraft arrive

As if!
i think anyone reading this thread needs to look at how much drafting has been happening in the last few months!!
They dont want to get rid of more crew, and the idea that they want to remove cairns base is laughable (seeing as most cairns crew are the only s/h crew left giving customer service)
if anyone asks me, why not get rid of negative, mean, hard-assed crew.. (most of which are based in melbourne) who dont give a shit about anyone but themselfs!!!!!!!! No, actually lets let them keep flying so they can keep complaining about CNS and PER crew taking all their flying... thats a far better image for QF...

If that is the case QF Skywalker, that will bring good news to a lot of crew. Having a look at the CNS bid pack, there doesn't seem to be too much flying after the 17th. Some days there is only 5 crew signing on. I think there will probably about 20 crew or so on RES.
I hope the transfer comes through for you Skywalker. I just hope they transfer a few CSMs as well.

747 300
Don't forget the 300's are going going gone in the next couple of weeks, so there will be a re-alignment of the destinations and LH crew required. Perth day trips will be given back to SH.
