??????

If you blokes can't handle twins I don't really want to fly in the airline you get to fly for.(if you do)
I don't know of any single engined large airliners. And they all have a vmca.

Where would you put an engine big enough to fly a 747, if you were only allowed to use one?

Bushy, I'm surprised at that comment, I'd have thought you'd know a little better.
Flying a bug smashing PA31, Baron etc....bears no relationship the flying a modern turbofan passenger jet.
Plenty of people around the would do a quick IR in a multi piston type...then jump into a sim and then learn how to fly a passenger jet.
Not the other way around

'Las' that's a very good Q One concept I had in mind ( dream stuff I guess)for a large SE pax carrying transport cat A/C is mount the large fan/engine in the middle of an oval shaped fuse. (Wings & tail mounted like any other craft)This way you 'store' the cargo ( SLF) into the area's out to the side of the engine core. Bit like the human eye shape.
Hate to think though if the N1 let go, chop chop, slice & dice
They don't build 'em in SE format in any shape for one pure & simple reason, nufin' to do with the mechanics of it am sure, it's about SAFETY, safety in numbers You could even have one pilot operating such an A/C (don't tell QF that) but again they don't for the obvious

Horatio,

Fair call, but I was talking about spiralling in from 50ft after screwing your phase one's up at 75 knots! Better pilots than any of us have done it. And yes I was aware that Vmca is predicated on FULL POWER

I would prefer to be in an aircraft that is definitely going UP or DOWN. If the fan fails in the van, you're going DOWN and slowly. If a fan fails in a conquest, metro or kingair, you're STILL going UP. Unlike the light piston twins where you're not really sure. Hot day, full load in a chieftan? no thanks.

Bushy,

You're right, I can't handle twins, so I guess I'll never have the dubious pleasure of having you as a backseat driver. Seriously

SE Turbine time is probably regarded the same way as multi crew time on Bandeirantes and Metro's.

I fronted up for an interview and one Chief Pilot says multi-crew twin time doesn't count because you only do the radio stuff. Yet the next bloke says it all counts and prefers to employ people with turbine time.

single shmingle

Gday stormy. Start from the destination and work back. Ask the operator of the place where you want to secure long term employ what they want.

Then 'learn to love the one your with'. Aside from an earlier post regarding C208 'a waste of time' (and he should know better) I can assure you that life is more than a logbook column entry and many highly skilled pilots in all fields of this industry are only doing a good job now because of all the 'time wasted' getting to 'the job' on all sorts of engine type and combinations.

Life experience should be another logbook entry.
