Just interested to know if QF recruitment (when it happens) is like BA/Virgin here in the UK? i.e. Generally, good number of hours built up with a reputable airline, helps if you are ex military/hold a UK passport. Same sort of idea but tinged with green 'n gold?
Reason I ask, Mrs recently been offered a visa to go (she's a nurse) and I like to aspire to something in a few years if we take the plunge. (also last job was 763 so as they are a major operator it would help).
Are Jetstar/Virgin getting good numbers applying or is it swamped like here?
Thanks in advance.

767 is about 30 crew over establishment- about four aeroplanes worth of crew. 744 fleet is similar. With 744s being retired at same rate as A380s arrive, it'll be a while yet.
That said, if QF are saying that they're not going to need pilots for 2-3 years it's actually a sure sign that things are beginning to turn around and they'll be short of crew before the year is out!

Dreamshiner, yes, QF/VB's requirements are similar to BA/VA. To confirm what they want, have a look on their websites.
There are some specific bits and pieces that may be relevant to you.
Eg, passport/citizenship requirements, 500 hour multi, etc.

I'm on long service leave (again) and am into my 10th week off since the start of the year with only 100 hours logged. I haven't been to work often enough to hear anything.
Given recent discussions on Qrewroom though, some people are convinced I'm permanently deluded so won't take too much notice of anything I write anyway!

The Qantas Careers website is advertising for Recruitment Officers (2 positions vacant). Applications closes tomorrow. Could this be a sign of things to come, recruitment wise for pilots?

Here's a thought:
Whenever a vacancy comes up, they can "auction" it off to the waiting cadets, highest bid wins!
Come in spinner, imagine the money the beancounters can make....
Might even be enough to let them pay a dividend next year.

At present, the Qantas Direct Entry Trainee Second Officer Scheme is on hold and no new application's are being accepted.

There is at least talk of recruiting again.
they have someone back working in the pilot recruitment section that was shut down in 2009. the latest info from the flight crew briefings was that the numbers are still about 70 above required. with retirements and promotions etc they expect to have to commence recruiting in mid 2012 but the cadets that are still in the system will start before this time.
