Merged: Qantas Cadets
Oh come on now Krusty, I know where you are coming from as I too had to work a few jobs at the same time to get where I am, however having been through all the pain ache and lack of money if I had the money Id do the short cut route as long as I dont complain how tough it is flying a shiny jet as my first gig like some of the aforememtioned

Nooooooooooooooooo!
I was going to apply this year too! Hmm..I'll probably go and do the Cathay cadetship now. I don't really want to go bush and slog it out for
six years.
Anyway, does anyone know why it was scrapped?

Nunc est bibendum
During your CX interview when they ask you why you applied make sure you run that line past them. It should do you well. When they ask you what you'll do if you don't get into the CX make sure you tell them that you can't be bothered slogging it out in GA. I'm sure they'll be suitably impressed and hire you on the spot.
...and good luck spending your career in Hong Kong with no housing allowance; I hear that they are renovating the 'caged mens' hostels' in anticipation of an influx of Cathay cadets.

Of course I'm not stupid enough to say that during an interview!
If worst comes to worst, my parents have said they will be more than happy to pay for the costs of my CPL and any further additional ratings I may need ie FIR
I know it sounds selfish but I'm not the type of person to be slogging it out in the bush. I don't think I'd be able to live in those kind of conditions and after hearing so much gripe about the pay here on pprune, I'd rather just live at home and make the thirty minute drive down to BK.
Pretty much, I just want to get onto jets and wear the Qantas uniform.
I can assure you that there are others just like me so there's no need to fill this thread with hate.

Hey how much do you want for a set of genuine Qantas Wings? I think I even have a spare shirt or two, authentic with the Qantas lettering on the buttons.
I'd rather just live at home
If not check out the Jetstar cadetship it should be right up your alley
So back on topic, do we think this is a permanent shut down of the scheme or is it likely it will be back in 1 or 2 years and if so will it ever be as big as it had been before the GFC again?

AFAIK, the last of the cadets who were on their industry placement were accepted into mainline over 18 months ago. This leaves plenty of guys out there on extended industry placement to be put into mainline before the pool of cadets runs dry.
So I wouldn't expect 2012 either. Beyond that is anyones guess.
DIVOSH!
