navigation charts at sea lights are either flashing or occulting, in either red green or white, never equal time on and off
Actually not quiet correct

Isophase (Iso):
This Light has equal duration between light and darkness. A period consists of both a light and a dark interval. Also called Equal Interval (E Int).

And in Red, Green, Yellow or White.

I humbly apologise to all and sundry. I never knew the use of the word occulting would cause so much thread creep. As a result of said thread creep, I will now have to present to a Sunnies destination so that I can time the flash/occult/isophase of the lights to determine what the hell they are. Gees, I hope I can get to sleep tonight for the worry of it.

capt clarry. I was going to say that they were alternating but I think that is incorrect too.

First time I saw them was on a RV. Excellent for picking the aircraft out on approach. As an enhanced visibility item I think that they are excellent . If they help prevent bird strikes even better.

Cool

Gidday Gaunty

You have an uncanny ability to simplify the overtly complex

We just switch the Pulselites to steady 'on' when it's dark.

Kiwiconehead I promise not to take the pus out of your kiwi iccent next time

Hugh Jarse Really really glad to hear you're back on the beat so to speak, hope you got my mail.

Clarrie I'm a bit disturbed to hear of your involvment with the occult, I really thought PPRuNe gave you all the spirit you needed.

While the thread is drifting...

Was it my imagination or last night did I see a QF 737 with a flashing (or occulting or isophase or dimming - didn't have time to pay THAT much attention) logo light? Seems like a very strange thing to happen.

It was on bout 4 mile final to RWY 23 AD. Maybe just a long day....

Well, watching a Sunnies' DH8-300 slide down final for 15 at CNS this morning, unable to access the stop watch without releasing the tiller and possibly leaving the taxiway, my assessment is that the bright illumination of the light was for a longer duration than the dim phase of the cycle, thus, the lights appear to be occulting.

I withdraw my earlier apology for using the term occulting and instead, apologise for using the generic term "(flashing)" to indicate what occulting meant, back at post #5.

G'day Gaunty, spirit has become a dirty word these days.

No vh_ajm you weren't seeing things.
The logo light has a "pulse" selection too.

Thanks woftam.

But what for? I take it for increase visibility of that aircraft at night? The plan being the inboard white lights flashing/occulting/dimming for day and flashing/occulting/dimming logo light at night?

Well that's answered that question, thankyou.
It reminds me that in the US of A, many railroad companies on their engines both steam and diesel had 2 headlights, one fixed on the right of way, the other that oscillated, ostensibly one imagines for the same reason that these occult, in order to be distinguishable from afar.
The bird strike thing though sounds a bit dodgy expecting birds to fly in a straight line, but one would imagine the approching decibels would spook em?
One more thing. When do these get activated?

Rock on!
