I know it's not Dunnunda but, inspired by Capson's video link to the guy landing on the logging road I thought I'd go looking for the games we used to play in our toys (when we were young, slim and had hair). During a stint with the septics I spent many a happy hour or two playing on Lyman Road and, fortunately, someone posted a link on UTube to some of our antics. It was quite a lot narrower than it looks, mainly because you had to keep the outriggers on the road and, as LSSs (Landing Site Supervisors), we had to stand in the middle of the road until the last moment to make sure Chuck had the correct line-up.
Happy Days

I stumbled across this again recently and though it worth posting for those newbies who may not have seen it before.
I spent 20 yrs wanting to see Bob Hoover do his thing in the Shrike. I got my chance at Oshkosh in 99, but unfortunately, along side some of the totally "in your face" displays such as the Gee Bee, BD5, Jimmy Franklin's jet engined Waco, and Oracle - poor old Bob was boring as bat****!

Well you'd be the first bloke I've ever heard say BH was as boring as bat****, but then again I suppose all the comparatives you drew were pouring chinese tea during their manouvers were they. Chuck Yeager thought he was pretty good but you probably think he's in the same category as BH. Mind boggling!
P51D, have you seen BH fly his routine in the flesh? The problem for me in the company he was keeping at Oshkosh was that it took him so long to actually do anything. Its much better on edited film. His area of operation for his routine is so big because of the radius of his loops, turns etc that you loose sight of him and could go get a cup of tea before he returns to centre stage.
I did not question his skills - just expressed a disappointment in the impact of his routine, in that company - after 20 yrs of looking forward to seeing it!
Interestingly:
The Gee Bee is retired - smart enough to call it quits before it killed him. Don't know about the BD5. Jimmy Franklin is dead! Oracle is smashed to bits!
Maybe that says something about Bob!
