I'm guessing THAT is the definition of a 1-way strip!

Corky
yea you are on the wrong side of the divide. The Hochstetter runs from the Grand Plateau down onto the Tasman glacier- I think . The place in question is a big flat area by the top of the fox ice fall called the "fox xxxx"
ahhhhh that triggered something - the Fox Neve.

that'll be the chocolate fish to you then Corky. 'fraid you boys are out of my league now!!
I know both Martins Bay and the Kaipo from above only, not as intimatly as you blokes.

As an aside, you blokes got me gee'd up and I had a poke about on google earth (amazing stuff), but saw quite big a strip thats not immediately obvious as to why its there. Its looks like its on a ridge somewhere between the head of the Pyke and what I think is the Gorge River. 44 12'30 S 168 18'33 E according to Google Earth.

Any ideas?

Great thread!!

I have just trawled through the whole lot over the last week or so - fantastic photos. This may even rival the photos thread on rotorheads

Here are some of mine - Guess the locations

An easy one to start:

Should be very familiar to some of you:

A bit harder perhaps??

I don't know them very well, never been into the Kaipo, just overhead- seen heaps of pictures though. On that strip on google earth, I've seen that once before but never landed there, must just be another one from the venison recovery but I'll do some reasearch, Know a few people who will know.

Well if it aint the Kaipo then I'm buggered if I know.. Could almost be anywhere slightly flat and clear The only other place which springs to mind would be that biggish hut up the hollyford (can't remember the name). Just not sure...

That time of year again.

There is no cloud in this photo, it's the icecap at dusk. The a/c in the shot is about 6000 agl. It's a good example of why we do a lot of late night ops into the field - those crevasses would be invisible during bright sunshine.

Very nice shot Stallie, what was your height when you took the shot?

Where are you now mate, I thought you were back from the land of the midnight sun.

Talking

We were at 9500, they were at 9000, terrain about 3000'; the pic is the lower east flank of Law Dome, east of Casey. I'm back here now for the next couple of months, it's an annual thing!
