FTJ
FTJ......an F model Aztec originally bought new by Ansett freight and ferried to Oz by James D Hazelton. A mighty aircraft! Where does she live now?
She is based at YMEN, still going strong! Thanks for the bit of history too, Flown this aircraft before PA39?

If my mum & dad had not lived up there in the 60's and shown me the pics of PNG I would have accused Tinnie of being too damn bored and skilled with photoshop.
Now I gather Chuck used to take the F28 in there too

Can't be Tokua... can it? I reckon it would be around Popondetta with bush like that around and an active volcanoe. Then again could be on New Britain. I give up!

Yeah - was interesting to see the same approach from both ends
Came across this one the other day - http://www.akbushwheel.com/downloads/river3.wmv
The bit about dipping the wheels in the river to scrub off speed looked a little worrying to me.

Miraz et al,
Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the wheels simply aquaplaned across the water to ensure first available contact with the river bank...?
There are a few videos getting around proon and youtube showing a team of Harvards doing a touch and go on a lake.
I'm not saying it is always safe, there are quite a few who have learned the hard way that it is not, but it seems that it can be done by those who have been properly trained and are mad enough to try...

ABZ - There are a few forum posts (not this forum) from the Alaskan pilot in the video that I posted that talk about using the water to scrub speed before hitting the dirt in the middle of the river.
I doubt this is possible without the oversized tyres.
