Question What happened to QANTAS business class??

What's happened to Qantas business class

My flight today:

Check in - that's fine.
Board 10 minutes late.. waiting.. waiting..
Newspapers come around - no Fin Review anymore
Next I see a QMaint guy with 100 mile an hour tape (airframe tape) get on.
Announcement "Sorry for the delay we are just repairing some panels in the cabin that a falling off" (This is an A330!).
So I decide to listen to music, so I reach into the seat pocket and pull out a torn up QANTAS way magazine with a heap of pages torn off the back , and the back cover missing. I start looking for what music is on [meanwhile we get airborne 20 mins late]. I start looking through then notice it's Novembers magazine.

Well time to get the flight attendant to bring some new headphones and a new QANTAS way mag.. but of course, my flight attendant buzzer button thingy doesn't work.

Eventual I get up and talk to the Flight At., he checks - they don't have any December magz on board! The movie is a December movie, but the radio service is a november service. Anyway, I finally settle in to old last months tunes, waiting for my favourite song to come on (wait about 7 songs) - then - "Ladies and gentlemen, the movie will now start, sound on Channel 14" . The music comes back on, and somehow the entire system has skipped forward 14 songs. So I roll my eyes and think, well I'll watch the movie. Roll over to 14, and the sound channel is broken on the entire aircraft. Not to worry, I didn't bring my binoculars to watch the 30 cm screen placed 4 to 5 meters away anyway. Not a single drop down screen on the left or right column of seats.

Why did they get rid of the individual screen on the seat in domestic business class - and now you have shared armrests and less width on the seat (back to bashing elbows again). The seats are more closely spaced (I'm sure of it!) - back to climbing over people.

My bag did come out in the first batch as promised today, but my last three flights it has almost been last??

Where's the value for money gone from business class.

Oh but the inflight entertainment did pickup when the Flight attendant spilt a coffee over another pax.

The A330 domestic business is a crap product and a disgrace. Most punters request to hop on a 767 service.

Funniest I heard, when some pax, allocated the squashed middle seat of the middle row in 330-200 business class, at top of her voice so all could hear, as she was trying to squeeze past the seated pax: "If this is business class, I hate to see what economy was like" - Needless to say it cracked everyone up!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks that. Unfortunately a non 330-200 flight Syd - Per (or Vice versa) is very hard to find . Bring back the 747!! Or 767... it , I'll take the 737 over the 330.

I did find it amusing that FAULTY stickers were plasted all around the galley as well.

I've flown PER-SYD just the once on the A330 (and the SYD-PER back). I can still picture it in my mind, and it still makes me shudder.

As a direct result, every (and many) PER-east coast-PER thereafter have been on the DJ 737NGs.

Let me coin a phrase - the AirbusOz cabin designers are Boeing's best friend . . .

unfortunately due to managements decision to have near minimum crew on, the service is less than perfect, not to any fault of the crew. The whole spilling coffee over another passenger, well mistakes do happen, i would like to see you try it sometime. If they had another two F/A's up there in j/class and y/class it would make the service a bit better and trust me, the crew would appreciate it a lot more. As for the j/class seating layout etc, what can you do? If you find it necessary to travel with DJ, then so be it, personally i would never fly DJ due to bad experiences.

Again due to lack of time and staff (again management's decision) things liked ripped magazines in seat pockets can't be noticed every flight. The cleaners have very little time to get the aircraft cleaned etc and don't have any time to go through every seat pocket to ensure the magazines are in order. However if it was December you travelled in, then Decembers' magazine should've been loaded.

I think you are getting a little petty when you say your headphones didn't work, they come pre-packaged and assembled by an outside company etc, if they are broken when QF receive them, how can they tell if they're working or not........and OH MY GOD!!!! you had to wait 7 songs before your favourite song came on the radio! maybe they should ask every passenger what their favourite song is and pre-program it so it's the first one you listen to! and if the movie wasn't on channel 14, it would've been on another channel where another passenger would've been listening to something, it is unavoidable.

In regards to the faulty stickers you would've seen in the galley. This could be something like for some reason a cupboard door is jammed and the crew can't open it, so it is a note for the next crew and a note entered for the engineer in the arrival port. Or something like an OH & S issue that the breaks on a cart aren't working properly, so they crew have left a note for the crew taking over so they don't use it. A lot of the time things can't always be fixed in the arriving port so have to be logged for the engineer and fixed say when the aircraft eventually gets back to SYD, the faulty sticker is then used as a courtesy to the next crew.

I admit, the j/class and even y/class domestic product could be a lot better, but due to some decisions by management, the standard has slightly dropped.

Personally, i would rather fly on the A330 rather than they old, 767, no thanks!

MEMO TO ALL PASSENGERS:

Dear Qantas passenger,

We understand you may be tempted to complain about inadequate service, delays, poor food and of course, if you do not live in Sydney, the three hour turnaround before you can finally reach your destination.

We suggest that you are wasting your time, which we are sure you could put to better use.

You see, frankly, we don't give a toss. We are Qantas. We are Australia's only international airline. The Government eats out of our hand and has done so for forty years. We have the lions share of the domestic market, and a very large chunk of the International market.

We've made sure you have to fly with us because the direct flights of our competitors to any worthwhile destination are always booked out years in advance. You are going to be carted through Sydney whether you like it or not.

We are effectively a monopoly. We ensure that we keep on the right side of the rich and powerful, so your complaints always fall on deaf ears.

Please go away and dry up. We can offer you any service we like and you have no choice but to take it.

Sunfish,
let me guess, you are a Collingwood supporter.
My reasoning is that you must be, to have that much wood on both shoulders!!

One of the problems, P_A_F, is that there are too many public SERVANTS travelling on taxpayer funded tickets on the Government QF account.
Public SERVANTS need to realise they are employed BY the taxpayer, to SERVE the taxpayer, and as such should be seated down in EY where they belong.
That way we'll see Business Class tickets being sold at their market price, rather than the discounted Government coupons.
The QUALITY of the pax up front would improve, resulting in none of those "torn magazines" and generally abused "furniture & fittings" that are as a result of letting the swine run loose in the house.

Now now HI'er. Believe me - the government doesn't pay for business class seats. I do

I'm suprised a communist like you doesn't think that government employee's should be travelling business class!

OZCabinCrew - I'm not blaming the staff, but equally you can't claim the entire experience has nothing to do with QANTAS!

Added: Oh, I should say I wasn't blaming her for spilling the coffee. Just saying I gained some entertainment out of it. Although felt guilty for snickering on the inside

Public servants ?

I don't know who these "Public Servants" are.

Public Service guidelines clearly state that PS can ONLY travel Business Class on flights longer than 7 HOURS duration.

The only PS up the front end would be very senior people -- not s...tkickers...

Did you ever think that maybe they sometimes PAY to upgrade or use points (like me) ??

That's exactly what I do Gummint pays economy, I pay the rest. Hence my original question - Where is the value for money in business class on this A330 shamozle. Anyone know where one can find the figures on these things [such as width of the seat, and space between seats etc.]. With the guy in front reclined, I honestly had to stand on my seat and jump into the isle to get out!

HI'er is just having a shot at me due to previous arguments in other threads

Thanks HI'er, you've made my day! Great bit of well informed social commentary.

Using your logic, if I may be so bold:

One of the problems is that there are too many Qantas staff travelling on Qantas business or discounted tickets. Qantas staff need to realise they are employed BY the customer, to SERVE the customer, and as such should be seated down in EY where they belong. That way we'll see Business Class tickets being sold at their market price, rather than free/discounted tickets.

A330 = Ugly inside and out, i hope those 787's/777's are the choice for QF cause last '330 flight reminded me why i love 73's or anything from the west side of the pond.

It's rather obvious that Point0Five has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
