Hahaha

Ohhh jeees, good old WAAC.

If youve got a handy 40,000 and no ambition to do well in the aviation industry then go ahead. Seiously its full of kids straight out of school with rich parents who think flying is "cool". There is the odd exeption to this but they are a rare bread.

You pay thousands for a advanced diploma and all you do is hang around the RACWA and get in the way. Very average succes rate with the atpls as well. If your from WA and looking for a good qualification to get you places i suggest a degree at ECU in aviation.

The attitude of their students is what brings this repuation to this group.

sieng _giap check your PM.

Geezs gyro...seem a bit bitter about the college. Are you one of the college graduates that haven't got a job? I think your the one with the attitude problem.

If you did bother to calculate the course costs between uni n the WAAC you'd find that that if costs the same. The advantage of the college is that the training is done in 12 months instead of 3yrs.

Yes there are a number of so called kids just out of school, however there are also alot of international students. The majority students are now working well in the industry as pilots.

If you don't think flying is cool....don't be a pilot. Leave it to the people that enjoy this job.

Gotta agree with gyro there

Their reputation is very poor within the industry (outside RACWA)
The diploma isnt really worth the paper it is written on. I have heard some pretty disasterous stories coming from there with their ATPL theory, i have heard most students go elsewhere to finish their ATPL at the end of the day.
Some employers I know tend to keep away from their product of commercial pilots due to a lower quality and not a big picture way of thinking, they are taught to pass the test not how to be a real charter pilot.

When i first started flying many years ago I looked at WAAC but the girl selling it kept ringing me up wanting an application fee.... I knew at that point it was a big waste of money!

As for ECU I have been there too.
I agree here with Cessna Capt. that ECU takes much too long and again the degree isnt worth the paper it is written on. Plus the theory content is lagging a bit... especially for the price!

If you want a course with less politics and a MUCH cheaper price give TAFE a look.

Otherwise the most common option is self study. It is definately the cheapest option.

As for a flying School biggest is not always the best. Find an instructor at a school that you feel is genuine and you feel comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable with him/her you will not learn as much. Be careful of people taking cash up front or a school saying you will fly with lots of instructors. You want a good quality continuous flight training program.

Good Luck!!

try www.theaeroplanecompany.com.au

WAAC is fine, but geez most of them have no situational awareness, try flying in the circuit area when there is a few of them up, along with some of our friendly blue tails!!

I recommend the above link, you will get the one on one instructor time that you are after.....and you will end up a more employable product.

BTW i dont work for them!!

The integrated courses are not the only way to go.

The "self improver" route (200 hours minimum) is cheaper even though it takes more hours, and you are able to get a GA job more easily if you have enough command hours to be insured to fly a GA aircraft with passengers! And haven't been "spoon fed" throughout your training. No need for all those twin and IFR ratings in the early days, add them on later when you have enough experience to handle them, and enough hours to get a job using them.

When looking around, ask for some references from former students, and see how long it took them to get into industry. Ask some employers which product they like, don't believe all you read on here.

Here we go again. Another example of someone asking a genuine question only to have everyone else with there own agenda lay the boot into WAAC at the first opportunity.

Almost all courses available these days are going to set you back a fair bit of coin one way or another. Almost all courses are going to have a certain amount of 'kids' just out of high school whose mum and dad are footing the bill. I would be suprised if any ATPL course had 100% pass first time round.

Ultimately, it's up to the individual. The WAAC course has all the information for you to pass your exams. It's whether you put in the effort YOURSELF as to how you perform.

I did the course. Paid for it myself from money I earn't in my previous life (not straight out of high school). Passed all exams. Never got knocked back from one job through GA to regionals (wasn't even an issue WHERE i did my training). Now flying jets in airlines.

CFI, I would be curious to see how you come up with the 200 course being cheaper......my calculator must work different to yours.

seng_giap, my advise is gather all the info, listen to other people EXPERIENCES (not just the mud slinging), do you own sums, and make your own decision.

The new UK integrated course

As the WAAC has CAA approval for its ATPL course (only one of 4 centres) I assume it's a new one that's been set up. Does anyone know anything more about it?
