Yeah, same here but they don't fit anymore

Anyone know when he left Fiji and moved to the UK? I had an idea he had taken up Fijian citizenship?

AIRLINES Papua New Guinea is set to provide jet services to its customers for the first time in its aviation history when it begins its Boeing 737 jet flights between Port Moresby and Brisbane, Australia, next month. Subject to government regulatory approvals from the departments of Transport and Civil Aviation, Airlines PNG should see its inaugural flight of the Boeing 737 jet on Monday, August 21 2006. The company says immediately upon receipt of regulatory approvals, it will begin advertising the Brisbane services and introductory fares in the media. “Following an extensive route and analysis and feasibility study, Airlines PNG has made a decision to enter the Port Moresby-Brisbane market,” said Airlines PNG managing director Simon Wild when announcing the service yesterday. “This decision was made as a logical next step in the company’s international operations, following commencement our Dash8 services to Cairns late last year.” Mr Wild said the new jet service, which was exhaustively studied in the past three to four months, will be a twice-weekly service on Mondays and Wednesdays, departing Port Moresby at 2pm. “What is unique about our Brisbane services will be that the Boeing aircraft we will be using will feature an all business class seating configuration, with only 60 very roomy and comfortable seats in the cabin. “But we will be selling those seats at discounted economy class prices and yet still providing free meals and bar service included in the price,” said Mr Wild. He said the airline expects to gain financially from the new jet service, but it was also committed to enhancing PNG’s appeal as a tourist destination for the large source Australian market and providing better access to PNG for markets beyond Australia as well. Mr Wild said the airline will be offering competitive airfares and packages to tourists travelling to visit the famous Kokoda Track. Airline PNG boss added that as stakeholders, his company will also work closely with the national carrier – Air Niugini to promote tourism in PNG. Mr Wild said Airlines PNG will not rush into other markets apart from the Australian market and existing contracts with resource developers. Airlines PNG general manager John Fitzgerald said the airline’s Port Moresby-Cairns service started in late 2005 had been successful in stimulating the PNG-Australia market, and had proven there was room for competition on routes between the two countries. “We will initially be providing Brisbane services Monday and Wednesday each week but will look to expanding those services when market forces dictate,” said Mr Fitzgerald. Formerly known as Milne Bay Air or MBA, Airline PNG has a fleet of 20 aircraft ranging from De Havilland Dash8 and Twin Otter and employ more than 700 staff.

Looks like it has OzJet written all over it to me - 60 business class seats sound familiar to anyone? And the photo (which is no doubt just an artists impression) has a hint of the OzJet scheme about it...



I wonder if they'll let Shags & the boys near it...?

Very true Sharpie. I'd given brief consideration to the possible presence of sharks but, as the aeroplane was sinking, there was no choice. As I later stood atop the cliff and surveyed the scene with a couple of Kerema locals, the presence of THREE sharks around the sunken aircraft was pointed out to me!

I'm sure that none of them were the size of that Hammerhead, let alone the Tiger Shark that ate it, but it still wasn't a place I'd have wanted to be!

Reckon I made the right decision at the right time... for once!

What beach?

Once you get a few miles SE of Kerema, there's only rugged cliffs covered with lots of very tall trees. At the base of said cliffs is lots and lots of jagged little rocks.

In any event, I couldn't see out the windscreen coz it was covered in oil from a line to the CSU that had let go. All I could see out the side window was trees atop cliffs, topped with cloud and, down at sea level, sea water breaking over rocks. My track kept me in VMC, but that's all it did.

And, yeah, for all the good it did me, I was always within gliding distance of land. Only problem was that the "land" was unusable at the time. It's just the sort of sh*t that happens in PNG and, from time to time, the sh*t actually happens.

The sadest part of the whole thing was seeing a Talair twotter circling several miles out to sea from Kerema. It had obviously been directed to the area after my mayday but, typically, was given ballzed-up directions and was, therefore, nowhere near the area. Of course, by the time it arrived to start searching, I was already standing atop the cliff, surveying the scene.

I then had to find the Police rescue party that had also been despatched to the approximate area. They got lost while trying to find me, but all was well when I rescued them!

Tinpis, in BEA in the late they issue .45's to beat off the check in girls.
It was called "Dial a Dispatcher" and do you know, I had the worst aim of them all. I married one of them in 1971 who was so nimble of foot, and
couldn't run fast enough. I still keep her on out of sympathy coupled with the Employment Act 1998 I don't think I will have that probem with the "Sisters" in Port Effin Morbid.
