A thread where ex PNG geriatrics lapuns and long longs can live in the dim distant past.

Phil Bennett was the original Chief Engineer.
Max Paynter was the original Chief Engineer.
Apologies. I believe you are correct.

VH TBB

Capt. Lionel Thrift did have a little sense of humour... when the first poster of the new B727 was distributed it bore the registration VH TBB and Capt Thrift queried with Head Office if it was going to replace the Bristol at Lae. The reply he received was "You provide the loads and we'll provide the aircraft"

I remember assisting the loading of a boiler for the new pyrethrum plant in Mt Hagen into the Bristol at Lae. The boiler was designed around the dimensions of the Bristol... but they forgot to include the measurements of the outside fittings like pipes and hatch fittings!!! We just got it in.

Macair

Returning to Macair, Ray F called me this morning. He tells me Macair had 50 to 60 shareholders, aside from the ones mentioned above, Jim Sinclair and John Guise also held shares. The coffee planter I was trying to think of from Goroka was Mick Riley.

Ray's memory is certainly far better than mine!

Ouch! Cannot remember exactly how much I used to pay for JPS per packet in the Dz days but could`nt have been much more than 2.50.

Still, I suppose even Ladies of the K2 variety cost more these days.
