And his trip to the US

On a recent trip to the U.S.A. former Prime Minister Bob Hawke was invited to
address a major gathering of the American Indian Nations in Kitimat, B.C., due to his experience in handling the Australian Indigineous situation.

He spoke for almost an hour on his ideas for increasing every First
Nation's present standard of living.

At the conclusion of his speech, the tribes presented the former Prime Minister with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name.

What was it? "Walking Eagle".

The proud Hawke then departed with his entourage, waving to the crowd as he left.

A news reporter later asked the chiefs how they came to select the new
name given to Hawke.

They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of ****, it can no longer fly.

I can't see underside but I presume you have the obligatory 2 inches of mud caked on the belly of the Bongo.

And the betel nut stains to tastefully continue the red theme inside.

But how to replicate the ripe PNG armpit B.O.?

Bongo has no mud, no stains and no smell...

However the floor is a realistic dirty splintered plywood simulation.. this girl is straight out of the paint shop.

The Porter build will have a cargo boi - uniformed pilot waving out the window (to startled tower controllers).

The Bandit will be pre Moresby inferno

What I'd like to see, .. is a fly-on-the-wall view of a model of a diarama of Dennis, Helly, Bober, Milesey et al, 'In Conferance', with appropriate arm waving, after some crisis, just to confirm my imaginings of what transpired behind the doors..

You wouldn't want to be there.

And when Junior's eyes started to bulge you remain very quiet 'cause someone is going to get fired!

On the six or seven times I got fired, at least two were for "pushing my luck" just that little too far!

Crikey..how long did you say "fired" for?

On the six or seven times I got fired, at least two were for "pushing my luck" just that little too far!
And how were you "rehired"

Someone got the sack every week!

They would be secreted off to some remote base for a month or two until it all blew over!

Then suddenly reappear, and nothing was said!

Your model of the Bongo P2-ISA looks great. (Apart from all the other embellishments suggested, it needs the tailplane covered with oil and exhaust stains, not to mention the cowls)

Can someone confirm that ISA was actually a 300 HP model with tip tanks as depicted ?

And did it come back to Oz as ISA ?

VH-ISA was a 260 without tip tanks, so I'm guessing not.

It's just that every time I took ISA, (VH that is) around PNG, everyone seemed to know it.

I usually ignored him and kept out of sight for a few days. If his blood pressure rose he tended to catch the next flight to Sydney (or in the early days, Maryborough ).

On one occasion in Goroka I went home. Around 10 am next morning he called on the phone, and demanded I return to work.

We "parted company" twice, in Australia in 1988 or 1989 and again in Manila around 1992.

He asked me to return to Flight West around 1999, but I wasn't interested. Twenty years of service to Junior was enough for my lifetime!

Looks like P2-ISA was a 300 HP Islander:

Registration: P2-ISA
C/n / msn: 703
First flight: 1974-01-25 (26 years 3 months)
Engines: 2 Lycoming IO-540-K1B5
Crew: Fatalities: 1 / Occupants: 1
Passengers: Fatalities: 3 / Occupants: 3
Total: Fatalities: 4 / Occupants: 4
Airplane damage: Written off
Airplane fate: Written off (damaged beyond repair)
Location: Bapi Airport (BPD)

It did well to last 26 years in PNG!

ZEEBEE. The first new Islanders were registered in the VH-IS* series in Australia. P2-ISA would have been allocated that registration when we re-structured all Talair fleet registrations in the late 1970's or early 1980's. Obviously a different aircraft to VH-ISA.
