Assessment with BT.
Just went with BT assessment a short while ago and found that is was a PURE ATPL test just missing the regulations and containing 2x 25 questions. In addition a detailed and not easy system test of 29 or 30 quiz so total all together 79 or 80 questions.
No information was given in advance about the ATPL test...just a note about the system test! So start getting back into your ICAO/JAR theory school books even if it seems silly and irrelevant for experienced Captains and F/Os.

The moment you've passed your test, start putting all your ATPL-knowledge into a filling cabinet, as you won't be using any of it in airBaltic - the local captains hardly know anything, see. If you disagree with anything they do, they tend to become like small stepped-over children. Well, thankfully not all...but most, anyway.
Retain your knowledge for you next interview, after you get fed up with airBaltic.
Almost everybody leaves after a short while, not because the company is bad, but because the CP is a hardline redskin from the old days, who's mostly concerned with saving the hides of his old buddies from the days when Brezhnev was running the show from the Kremlin, every time they f**k something up.
You might not believe me now...but give it a little time, and you might be bying me beer over it
Finally, gentlemen: Congrats with getting a job, and enjoy the girls in Riga

Hi Spirit:
I have been around a while and this is the way ALL old buddies are taking care of each other all around the world.
I am there as an experienced Captain and I will NOT interfer in BT POLITICS and I strongly advice every one to follow the same rule wherever you go unless you want to piss in your own nest!
Spirit..you obviously couldn't resist the temptation and ended up in trouble...
perhaps this is a lesson to learn for you...when you are an F/O (As we all were once upon a time..) the key to get upgrade, being liked and have a chance to get some were is to keep your "nose clean"...it is hard, but you will feel better and you can certanly change the atmosphere on your OWN flights the day you are a Commander.
Besides it is hard times now so I suggest all of my colleagues to make a nice environment wherever you are or will be located.
Vice words from an old fox like me.

b737rider,
I appreciate your wise words...but like I said: I know BT, and you don't.
Let's talk again after you've served there for some time, and then I'll be happy to listen to you.

Hi,
Been called for an interview with AB,i got the JAR licence but presently,as Im flying for a non JAA state,so i have an ICAO licence with the type on the same instead of having it on JAR one,so basicly,my ratings are expired in JAR.
Does anyone know how to convert this ICAO into Latvian licence,i.e requirements and so,and then into JAR(into JAR as far as i know 500h on type and LST with an JAR approved TRE)
Thanks!

A question to anyone who already was on interview.
After applying for position for FO in april, airBaltic have send me a list of documents in the beginning of May that i've send back to them (copy of logbook, passport, licences et..).
How long did you wait until you have been called for interview? (After you send the required documents)

All I can say to all of this is I was there in 1994 when BT started operations...
I was the CP of Baltic Int'l, (the predecessor of BT) and we flew the B-727...ALL of he pilots that were hired by BT AT THAT TIME were first rate, as were the dispatchers we trained...
I consider them my friends and colleagues, and in fact own an apartment in Riga, and visit there every year...
Having said that, it's been 15+ yrs since then, and things have changed...
I would fly on BT, but it wouldn't be my first choice in the region...
Please don't blame the downfall of BT on the Latvians...look to SAS, and their cost cutting monolopistic ways...

I haven't worked for AB but other guys in the "vicinity" and OMG is all I can say about the olds guys attitude... of course there are different cultures everywhere but this is something that affects the flight safety and not a place to keep your nose clean all the time just to get your promotion. Be in a company where you are allowed to use your brain or quit. "
I agree with Moonwalker. What kind of a pilot kisses a.. or plays a role to get a job or upgrade? If you can´t be yourself in the company and you have to play a role or kiss a.. then quit. That kind of company is far from being a professional one. Everyone hired to an airline should get there upgrade according to seniority as normal. And ofcourse have a clean nose on top of that
. My two cents..

How to prepare it?
Hi guys! I got the email to send all the documents couple of days ago, after read what is going on so far here, I´m asuming I will be call for an interview sooner or later. I applied last March and no news until this week. This seems to be the second selection because a lot of people went on April.
Anyway, my point is, any idea about how to prepare myself for the ATPL questions?, could looks ridicule but is what more afraid me, I really have forget that stuff. I have jet time but no on AB types. And since I´m working right now, I think sim or interview wont be the problem.
Advices????
Saludos!

Hi guys!
There is a BIG difference between kissing a.. mentioned so strongly by you and keeping a normal low profile if you dont have a authority position!!
This attitude is normally called social antennas!
I don't kiss a...and certanly not yours...
