Well, perhaps they would make an "impact" so to speak, but without significant follow up in many different ways (violent and nonviolent), nothing long lasting except whatever loss of life they inflict.

There are further rumblings from students and dissidents, I wonder if there will be a coordinated effort with the boots on the ground being Persian slippers rather than Western boots after a little bombing?

So what should they do then, other than nothing?

You are consistently Gung-Ho Hangarless. Why is that? Are you looking to commit US and other forces to another fruitless Middle East enterprise?

LW said he thought there was no purpose in dropping bombs -so I ask him what is it he suggests what the US should be doing other than nothing?

RAF Lakenheath Asset Moves Update #FreeIran

--- "Operation LION & SUN" ---

Potential for quite a lot of movements from RAF Lakenheath in the next 24-48hrs. At present we have:

12x F-15E "Strike Eagle" (SJ) jets
12x F-35A "Lightning II" (HL) jets
13x F-22A "Raptor" (FF) jets

Plus Lakenheath's own remaining complement of F-15E and F-35A jets, with potential support from up to 25 tankers at RAF Mildenhall, including:

3x KC-46A "Pegasus"
5x KC-135T "Stratotanker"
17x KC-135R "Stratotanker"

I expect tomorrow will be a busy day

Another Bombardier E-11A Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) is heading from CONUS to the Middle East/Europe theater.

The plane is set to join 5 other BACN platforms already deployed in that region. The U.S. Air Force is known to operate 9 of these overall.

Running another possible scenario.

If Hezbollah, supported by Iran, and the Houtis, supported by Iran, and Hamas, supported by Iran, fire missiles at Israel from specially hidden/disguised underground facilities, would it not be useful now to find out where Iran's missile launchers are located by getting them to fire some off? We have seen photos of underground tunnels in Iran lined with waiting missiles.

Could these tunnel openings be what Israel (and by extension the US) would really like to hit this time around?

Wow ORAC, thank you for your detailed deployments of the Orbat.
There is so much Open Press stuff available, that you cannot be accused of posting classified data.
What this does indicate is a larger deployed US force than 2003 GW2.
If you're taking bets on H-hour, I would go Sat or Sun night local.

ORAC 28th February 2026 05:46

IDF announcement:

Following a situational assessment, it was determined that as of today (Saturday), at 08:00, immediate changes will be made to the Home Front Command Guidelines.

As part of the changes, it was decided to shift all areas of the country from Full Activity to Essential Activity.

The guidelines include: a prohibition on educational activities, gatherings, and workplaces, except for essential sectors.

The public is required to follow the guidelines published on the official Home Front Command channels. Full guidelines will be updated on the National Emergency Portal and the Home Front Command app.
Israeli Air Force:

In the last few minutes, sirens have sounded across the country, and a preliminary directive from the Home Front Command was distributed directly to mobile phones, instructing to remain in proximity to a protected space.

This is an initiated alert whose purpose is to drill the public for the possibility of missile fire into our territory.

The IDF emphasizes that, as of now, there is no need to stay inside protected spaces.

With all those assets situated around the Middle East and southern Europe, I guess they had to go for it.

Well if the US wasn’t involved they are now - Trump has put out a message saying the US has commenced combat operations.

Interesting how quickly Iran can implement a nuclear weapons program, considering that the USA obliterated it last year and are busy obliterating it today.

He is also preparing the USA population to ‘be ready for American casualties.’

Initial reporting is that first attacks on Iran were about 10am local - surprise, first rule of SMOFSCEFCA - hit 'em when they are not expecting it.
Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar supposedly evacuated, but presumably the Patriots would be manned.
Report of one of the Iranian leadership killed in Tehran.

IDF reporting Iranian ballistic missiles in the air - initial reports mentions "dozens".

Principles of War, 5th in fact, I am a bit dislexic: SMOSSCEFCS (used to end in A, Admin)

An attack contrary to international war, not that it will bother the Trump regime) with objectives that cannot be achieved by air power alone. Another ill thought through mess.

4 day SMO??? :ooh:

jolihokistix 28th February 2026 07:41

12 minutes, two hours, nine hours.
For a ballistic missile, a cruise missile or a drone to reach Israel from Iran. (Less presumably to US bases in the Gulf.)

dead_pan 28th February 2026 07:50

Talking of timings, its becoming a bit of a pattern the US starting their recent military ops on the weekend. Slower news cycle, or want to give the all important markets time to process the news? Weekend warriors...

BBadanov 28th February 2026 07:52

Press reporting that the first target at 10am in Tehran was the Ayatollah's compound.
Hope that was successful - a precursor for the people to demonstrate against the IRGC and rise up.
Man in the street does not see much of destruction of far-flung nuclear facilities.

Low average 28th February 2026 08:00

As we've learned time and time again in the West - winning the war is easy, but winning the peace is much, much harder and just as important.

I doubt very much if the Ayatollah or any of his immediate senior staff have been anywhere near this, or any other ,identified compound for some considerable time!!

golder 28th February 2026 08:46

Yes, it's on

skua 28th February 2026 08:47

I am sure I heard Sky report that the Ayotallah has chosen to go on holiday. Maybe adding some babushkas to his harem.
I see FR 24 has gone off line - interesting timing.

An interesting time to launch the attack. Deliberate or just inevitable timing?

Someone who shall remain nameless told me that it would be on a Saturday so I looked at the phases of the moon. It's quite common for things to kick off when there is no moon (Bin Laden knock on the door for example) however the moon is approaching maximum illumination.

Well, it's a Saturday in broad daylight so kudos to them.

It added that the safety of citizens, residents and visitors remains a top priority that cannot be compromised.

The Ministry urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports. The Ministry also urged the public to obtain information from official sources within the UAE and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified information.

It shows a rocket fall to earth, relatively intact, after being intercepted. It’s not very far from the centre of Doha. It’s quite a scary sight.
