Iran is claiming to have closed the Strait of Hormuz.

That would appear to be a claim far exceeding their current naval and missile capability.

He was the Ayatollah, not the Pope.

Though I understand daughters are discouraged; Real Muslims are supposed to have sons. ;)

What does it actually take to close the Strait to commercial traffic? One ship attacked by a fast patrol boat? The announcement has been made, how risk averse are the operators?

Celibacy seems a peculiarity specific to the Church of Rome.

Which is why Islam seems to run towards nepotism and so many claiming direct descent from the prophet - including the Khamenei family. A lineage, alas, which seems to have ended at the 38th generation….

Reports some vessels are already making alternative arrangements. The insurers will be the ones forcing decisions.

can only get better.

And quite frankly, who cares how he died whether it was in the air or on the ground.

It could happen by accident but the odds of it being unguided and landing in the water were far greater. A mile to the east and it would have made a hole on the island belonging to a friend's boss. The owner of that strip of land drives a car with the number plate "1" and he would have taken it somewhat personally. Now that would have been really awkward.

There will be a retaliation. Iran won't know when or even what it was i.e. sometime things just happen.

Edit : just saw DXB got hit. I posted a few days ago that the mentality at play is that the action is more important than the consequence. That is unfortunately coming home to roost. The Iran regime will be hunted down for as long as it takes.

Why do they bother?

They don't recognise the UN or any international norm.

Just as a reminder, according to the NYT and after the last attack, the regime already had succession plans in place in case of a decapitation attack.

And in the meantime, do you think they are just going to sit back and take it.
The west has for a long long time under estimated the fanatical regimes and their ability to strike where not expected, BinLaden proved that.

As much as American has the military might, technical ability and hardware to prosecute these actions, it’s the follow up guerrilla warfare with a bomb in a car or a bomb in a boat that they will struggle against.

Just let us hope that the people do rise up and throw out the regime, because the US will never be able to do that without boots on the ground, and the consequences of the regime surviving may be the Trojan horse in the Americans side for years to come.

Reference my comment about the lte morning attack.

US official confirms to Fox that US believes Khamenei and 5-10 top Iranian leaders killed in initial Israeli strike on compound; agree with Israel’s intelligence assessment.

A senior US defense official tells me that the US government agrees with the Israeli assessment that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead, along with 5-10 other top Iranian leaders who were all meeting at a compound in Tehran Saturday morning. The top IRGC commander also killed.

Multiple sources tell me that the timeline for the strike had to be moved up based on intelligence and this “target of opportunity.” “There was a deliberate decision to accelerate the timeline,” officials told Fox.

That is why the US and Israel took the unusual decision to strike during the daytime to achieve the element of surprise and to target this meeting. Normally the US military would not launch an operation like this during the day. The meeting accelerated the timeline.

“This was a massive, wildly bold daytime attack,” a senior US defense official told me. “It caught the senior leadership off guard, a Saturday morning during Ramadan and on Shabbat in the daytime.”

“We hit the senior leaders right out of the gate.” (Israel conducted the targeted strike).

Afghanistan wasn’t exactly armed to the teeth with modern weapons or missiles and how did that work out? People underestimate the foe time and time again.

I truly hope it works out with very few casualties on the wests side, but…….

FFS, can't we concentrate on the new freedom in the Middle East?

Let's think the Iranians want a secular democracy.
Free of hardline Islamic Marxists, and free of the shackles of the IRGC.
Could it be that the ex-Shah's son, Reza Pahlavi, has a role?

Easy answer , the Iranians gave the middle finger and refused, despite being given several opportunity, to negotiate and they are beginning the learn that their refusal has consequences.

Local US politics has little to do with it, I would suggest.( further debate on the JB Thread may be more appropriate.)

NutLoose 28th February 2026 22:01

You think this is freedom? You kill the heads of a regime without anything in place to take up slack and you get anarchy, i just hope it does not follow the route that Iraq went down.
