It's about time Kosovo was recognised by the UN as a Sovereign nation.

Have they not been paying attention? Daddy Russia is having their arse handed to them by Ukraine/NATO/The West/Satanists/Nazis* (delete as appropriate for today's propaganda). They have no one in their corner.

Perhaps a day trip to The Hague is required for their political leaders, to remind them where their idiocy ends up?

ORAC 10th Dec 2022 21:08

Starting to kick off in Kosovo….

Kosovo police say that several roads in the north have been blocked and that their police units have been fired at on three occasions. Police were forced to respond with gunfire. Gunshots have also been heard in numerous locations ….

Gotta ask, why would anyone take time to make a video while people are dying or need attention?

alf5071h 11th Dec 2022 06:49

"… why would anyone take time to make a video …"

Because from a viewpoint with hindsight it suggests that we do not understand the horror of war, no experience of such situations, and where every situation differs, evolves, and how people react.
Not a conscious or rational choice; humans are not rational however much we believe otherwise, particularly after the fact.

Take a different view; is there anything else that could be done in these situations; magnitude of situation, lack facilities, ongoing activity - shock.
A picture is a snapshot, not the story or an appropriate interpretation.

Our reactions - in such situation or our interpretation from video, represent the limits of mind, inability to relate to situations beyond comprehension, which regrettably in the modern world we substitute simulation with video games.
Also see posts on 'glorification' - misrepresentation of war via social media.

(1/3) On 5 December 2022, President Putin signed the law on Russia’s Federal Budget. Draft budgets have stated over 9 trillion rubles (US $143bn) will be allocated across defence, security and law enforcement in 2023.
(2/3) This is a significant increase compared to prior years and will represent over 30 per cent of Russia’s entire budget.
(3/3) The budget approved by Putin is likely over-optimistic in its expectation of revenue and spending in 2023. Therefore, other parts of Russia’s budget are likely to come under increasing pressure to support the costs of the war.

(is this thread broken due to length ?)

Weren't regional governments told already that they cannot expect central government funding anymore and that they should provide their own budget? This feels like a new time bomb ticking.

Because they arrived uninvited, tortured innocent bystanders, and deserve to burn. Because he respects their choice.

The deed is done.

The guy filming was for sure a comrade. The question why he filmed instead of helping is legitimate as is the answer that people under shock do strange stuff.

FUMR 11th Dec 2022 08:57

Oh come on guys! It needs to be filmed to show the graphic horrors of war. There were others there to help the injured. The real issue is that they most likely had no medical kits available to help with. You see one guy put a blanket over his injured comrade. It's probably all he could do. I doubt if they have been trained in basic first aid either.

On the topic of videos posted around the web, plus a lot of the social media comments (particularly Twitter) I think we all need to treat a lot of them, probably the majority of them, as being faked, tampered with, or otherwise misrepresentative. We all (mostly) want to see Ukraine doing well, and highlight anything negative about Russia, and that is influencing the way social media is reacting, I'm sure. There are people that use some social media outlets, like Twitter, that feel more important if their content is viewed more than that of others. That has to create a strong bias to post stuff to get more views, and some of that stuff may not be as it seems.

Obviously there are a few reliable sources around, but one notable feature from early on has been that Ukraine is very adept at managing the information flow from their country and garnering a lot of support from many countries for the way they are being unmercifully attacked by Russia. I give them great credit for that, the contrast with the almost amateurish way that Russia is trying to deceive is stark. However, the winning side in any war wins partly because their propaganda is better than that of their opponent.

One noticeable feature in many recent snippets on Twitter is that the images are either doctored or are not what they are assumed to portray. It's been winter along much of the active front over the past month, yet we are still seeing videos where there are deciduous trees in leaf, for example. Finding accurate sources of gossip from the front lines is not easy, especially as Ukraine seems to have done a pretty good job over the past few months of stopping a lot of the unofficial videos that were being released (remember all the tractors towing armoured vehicle videos, early on, for example).

No idea how we validate anything that appears on Twitter, to be honest, or in the mainstream media. I think we need to assume that we only have a very vague idea of what might really be going on right now, and that's probably a very good thing for Ukraine.

Cheers, fdr. I probably wasn't clear in what I was referring to, but I meant after he'd come to a stop. Seemed to continue running them. I initially thought I may have misjudged the video, but the drag chutes are clearly full of air. (wind perhaps?)

Tumanski R-11 and R-13 appear to have the majority of engine accessories at the 6 o'clock position, and that would probably include the FCU. Possible that engine controls would be damaged during a belly landing.
