A Tornado with flexible and retractable canards!

(PS: The late Roland Beamont tested a Canberra without canopy to 450 knots on 12th April 1951)

Great work by Keith Hartley! At least no-one else could claim to be in that photo. Seem to remember kinetic heating was a factor. Must be a record speed for a cabrio jet that took off and landed al-fresco?

You know you can't really do that without a roll bar. It's illegal.

In cockpit videos

Good evening all,

Following the absolutely fantastic pictures posted by all (thank you very much, I really enjoyed looking at them). :ok:

Does anyone have any 'In cockpit videos' or anything similar they would be happy to share?

Regards,

NDW

Shot taken by Ian Pringle in Buccaneer ZU-BCR on November 2nd 2012.
Er....aren't his AI and the horizon slightly at odds with each other...?

No.

Sun.

? Looks like the AI is indicating a slight left bank and descent while the horizon and standby indicator are indicating a bank to the right.

I bought an iPad last October and thought I would see what it was like taking flying video, not expecting much at all. I had my flying buddy hold it up against the window and press 'play'. I was quite surprised with the results. The strobing effect of the prop is unfortunately one of the problems; you have to pay big bucks to get a camera that doesn't do that.
Bear in mind that this is real flying and not your mincy push button computerised mil stuff...:ok:

Thanks for the post,
but there's a lot of FJ pilots who are qualified on the Tiger Moth too.

thing 10th Feb 2013 22:40

Just a bit of friendly banter Fox. Most of the private pilots I know are mil or ex mil and top blokes (and pilots). At my own club there are ex CFS guys, FJ jocks going back to Vampires, ex mil guys now doing the airlines, you name it we've got em. We also have a Spitfire so ner.

only one Spitfire?

thing 11th Feb 2013 07:07

It's got two seats so it counts as two.

Another sight not to be seen again:

That's a great photo Shackman. I remember 4 visiting Warton together many years ago.:)

Pontius Navigator 12th Feb 2013 08:55

Reminds me of a very astute German when we took a Shacklebomber to an airshow at Oldenburg. "Is it a Halifax."

If you know your aircraft the question is not as daft as it seemed at first sight.
