Oops

I now see that the older person is a Cpl. I should have spotted the hat badge! I blatantly made an assumption of rank based on appearance and age. I shall now have a strong word with myself.

This is the result of modifying the WRAF frumping machine at Cranwell. Back in my day they’d single out the good looking girls and the frumping machine would give them flared legs before they were allowed to graduate. I recall a few test cases where it also added a moustache. Clearly they’ve perfected the facial hair mod and given up on the leg frumper.

Just curious as to why the skirt-wearing F/Lt in the centre is also sporting a beard?

Wigston.

I am glad my father is not here to see what has become of his Royal Air Force which he served proudly for six war years and which were the defining years of this fine man's life.
I despair, but no doubt he was a dinosaur and I am a dinosaur and what would have been seen as comedy in bad taste 20 years ago is now the zeitgeist.
So be it, and sod it.

I can only add " God help us" Does the Army and Navy also allow this? With reference to the older rear view image of the Sgt with the strange hairdo, I can only say that since he wishes to appear like a civilian, he won't mind being called mate by junior ranks?

I drove past a base the other day, and saw one of those skirts in real-life. It looked even worse than the picture. A bit like a redesigned plastic-mac

Don't be a tw@t. You’re better than that. You might not agree with some of the lifestyle choices now prevalent, but poking fun in that manner is just childish and portrays you as an unenlightened relic.

This unenlightened relic does not do abuse.
The thought that the photograph of the famous three posted upstream is acceptable to the RAF and many PPRUNERS suggests to me that I am on the wrong Forum.
Will the last dinosaur please turn the lights out, close the door, lock it and throw away the key.

Most of this thread is a d0g**** 1980s cold war take, whilst I don't agree with the gender neutral language and shocking turnout, uniformity doesn't make a good soldier, sailor or airman. Discipline does. Know the difference.

Oh dear, it seems you have missed the point!
What matters is that his / her / their persona is recognised.
The job? Who cares.
