"Scotland can avoid that by not having a huge military budget to be pilfered."

the Irish option in other words - just enough troops to form a guard of honour for The Liberator and to perform at the Tattoo

"Meddling in English affairs" is putting it mildly. How about the Scots totally feckin' up the UK economy for decades starting with Tony Bliar and continuing through cyclops and Darling!
Mmm..... Blair elected in an English constituency. Darling, born in England. Brown.... well you know.

The thing is both Blair and Brown were elected as leader of the Labour party and you don't do that with just Scottish backing do you?

Offshore Addict, you are my new hero. The voice of the great-unwashed-never-been-buggered-at public-school ratings/soldiers/airmen! Top rant!

PS. In the words of Doris Day, que sera sera. I have no say in it, I just hope that the outcome doesn't adversly affect ME (and the other UK tax payers).

By the way, I wasn't being anti Scottish (the people*), it's that the political persuasions of those elected there tend to be rather left of centre.

*My wife is half Scottish, although she went to public school in England and therefore speaks correctly.

Well, it was more of Blair 'laying hands upon him' than an election wasn't it? If only those hands had been aroond Broon's neck.

Well, no actually, if you have a closer look you will see that you didn't quite. In any case, since there was only one runner, and as Willard clearly implies, it was definitely more a case of selection than election.

Evenin' all

...and thank you so much for the personal insults - always amusing to read.

Rest assured that I do not consider the entire Scottish race to be 'dribbling inbreds' - only those who will vote out of pure racial hatred of the English, fooled by the undeliverable promises of Salmond and his thuggish Scottish National Socialists and who are either too bigoted or ignorant to listen to reasoned debate.

Let's just hope that the intelligent people in Scotland will turn out in sufficient numbers to send Salmond and his ilk packing....and won't be outnumbered by the face-painted Braveheart wannabes who don't realise what a catastrophe a 'Yes' vote would bring upon the country.

If there's one person who will come out of this with honour, it's Gordon Brown. Speaking eloquently and with passionate conviction, his statesmanship was infinitely greater than that of the startled badger Darling.

Incidentally, offshore addict, noting your use of the possessive apostrophe, which particular element of the 'VC-10' (sic) do you find 'cr@p'?

C'mon Beagle, you must know that he was having a pop at you, not the funbus. Who could not like that magnificent noise and vibration factory?

The harsh rasping note of the engines, the sensation of an open top sports car, as the wind whistles through your hair, while you are sitting inside wondering why the door seals are all perished.

I should point out, since there is a fragile link..... the last VC10 trip that I flew on had a TARTAN callsign!

Offshore Adict,

I understand the heightened feelings at a time like this, but your post is nothing more than a rant. Happy to watch a MilAv thread stray into an important, current issue, but personal insults are not the way we do things here. Please read this whole post.

Nothing in your post has anything to do with BEagle, it's just angry vitriol. If you feel BEags was out of order, please just say so. Keep the threats, personal grievances and stories of officers you once knew for another place.

After this **** is all over, we still have to live together.

CM,

Yes, we will all have to live together, but whichever way it goes Salmond's epitaph should read "The man who divided Scotland".

Let's pray that's all he divides. But you're right, he's certainly done that

I concur with the comment re Gordon Brown coming out of this with honour. I've never had any time for the man before but I was moved by his passion and eloquence. If Scotland does vote yes (not that I want them to) they could do much worse than vote for him as their new prime minister. Assuming of course that Salmond recognises the need to step aside for a new scottish parliament structure and elections?!

Still clearly recall GB's time in power, behind the scenes or in front.

Liked offshore-addicts gib.

Defiantly on-message for me.
If there's one thing that's very apparent after this, it is how much we on this small group of islands all seem to like and dislike each other in almost equal measure. Not just the Scot-English thing either, which works both ways..
For me, the union model is looking irreparably damaged now. Trying to predict the future is impossible, but I still guess that we will all drift further and further apart, Federalism could be the next model for what was the UK, it seems inevitable.
How an "Armed Forces" can be divvied up for that I don't know. For some countries, the Armed forces is the binder.
Its a shame really, how its gone here. I remember the banter we had when working in the forces with my friends from all corners of the UK, that humour has been slowly replaced by a more sour faced drama played by people who take themselves far too seriously.
