There was only one SNCO controller there when I worked there don't know if he's still there or was involved in this incident, but I wouldn't be surprised - some people attract more than their fair share of busy days!!! I think the gerbil left ARCC some time ago (unless there's more than one!).

Co-Ordination of SAR
Just A small point,...
The co-ordination and control of the whole incident was the responsibility of MRCC Aberdeen. The operation was delt with by H.M. Coastguard operators.
The duties of "Air Co-ordinator Onscene" were delegated to Rescue 51 by the coastguard for the time that they were onscene. Before they asked to go home for tea and biscuits!!
I hope that this helps to correct the misunderstanding........

I don't think that it really matters who was controlling this operation, merely that considering what was potentially a huge one, just that whoever did it did very well indeed. I arrived on-scene and recieved just the service that I expected. I would like to thank all of the controllers for their hard work, particularly the crew of R51 whose work load was increased by our VHF failing. Thanks guys.
It was the ferry I was supposed to be going on holiday in!

Gentlemen
I am borrowing this password for a fleeting visit.
As the SMC (SAR Mission Co-ordinator) during the "Ferry" incident I would like to thank all those concerned for their help.
Owd Yella - Just read your form R that has been sent to me via ARCCK, good bit of casualty culture going on there by doing a few laps round the casualty!.
I would be lying if I said it didnt annoy me that some people think ARCCK co-ordinated this incident. Nope wrong. MRCC Aberdeen did (I have the endless paperwork afterwards to prove it-worst luck). However it is all quite irrelevant, at times like these we all help each other!.
Thanks again to all concerned

W34A, as a small picky point, ARCCK control the Air Assets, not MRCC - they might give you operational command of the assets once the job is running but the A in ARCCK is for Air just as the M in MRCC is for Maritime.

Oh I See,
Now be a good chap and re-read my inititial post. Then cut along and read the inside cover of the FIH (that's the YELLOW book to you). I was simply responding to your understanding as to the use of 5680, not commenting on who controlled/co-ordinated the said rescue.
5680 = Primary Day, World-Wide Common Frequency for SAR Control (for RCC and other Authorities Exercising control over SAR operations.
Mad Mark!!!

Oh I See,
Oh dear, whatever
I suppose your the sort of person that reads the ERS or TAPs and says "I'm not sure that freq is for the ILS. Despite what the book says, I'll decide what the freq is used for."
And no, I am not at the ARCC and I am perfectly happy that they do co-ordinate more than they control (that job being primarily a CG one in the maritime environment and a police one on land).
I will say it again, I was responding to your missunderstanding as to the use of 5680 as a distress frequency, that is all.
Now go and take a chill-pill and accept that you were wrong.
