Pension Projections

I will be due to receive my preserved pension in the not too distant future and would like to find out exactly what I can expect. I left the RAF in 1992 and I understand that the admin side of things is now handled in Glasgow.

Does anyone have contact details - postal address, 'phone, fax etc. I have found a website but it can only give you your pension details if you are still serving.

Thanks in advance

Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency

I had to reclaim some tax on my pension after I left and the problem seemed (to me), to be insurmountable. They were however, sh#thot.

They were however, sh#thot.
Unfortunately, that has not been my own experience.

I tried contacting the folks at Kentigern House three months ago as required and followed up twice. No response. Zilch. I contacted the Veterans Administration but they could only give me the same details as those above, and I'd already tried contacting them there. I could phone from Borneo but at a quid a minute, the "hold" is damned frustrating and I gave up after fifteen quid. They've got my AFPS Form 8 and the pension and lump sum was due last week. I'm on home leave later this month and can try chasing them up then. They probably think 'Darussalam' is in Tanzania - either that or they've done a runner with the money...

AFPPA Chief Exec details ?

Does anybody that has had dealings with the Pensions people happen to know of or know where I can get hold of the contact details of somebody in charge at that shambles of a Pensions Agency? I have already tried the Glasgow address, but may as well be sending my letters to the monkey house at the local zoo.

Without boring you all too much, for the past 10 months, I have been looking into buying extra years service for my pension as I joined when I was 23. As with all investments, you look at the costs, see what the benefits are and then make a decision. Or not if the AFPPA have anything to do with it.

For the past 10 months, I have been trying to find out exactly how much my pension would be worth when I claim it at my 16/38 point with & without these extra years. So far, it has been 10 months, 4 letters and 4 phone calls to JPAC to get them to answer this one simple question. The only response I get is that I can but 1 yr 299 days extra service at a cost of 2.5% of my salary (they won't / can't even confirm whether that is gross or net salary - I am assuming gross). Not a sniff of an explanation of what this will get me, and that is after my repeated calls to JPA asking them to answer my question, not getting some idiot to photocopy the letter they sent before.

As the payments are based around my date of birth, I need to make a decision soon. But I am now in the sandpit and doing my best not to get whacked by the locals on top of dealing with AFPPA's incompetence. It's time for letter number 5, but this time I want to send it to the head honcho; if they aren't able to tell me how much my pension will be worth, quite frankly, I'm not sure I want them looking after it.

Any contact details anybody might have gratefully received. Also, if anyone has experience of buying extra years serivce, whether they found it worth the cost etc, again gratefully received. PM me if you would prefer to pass info that way.

Ministry of Defence | MicroSite | People Pay And Pensions Agency | What We Do | People, Pay and Pensions Agency Overview suggests it's David Ball

and the PDF on http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/Mi...tePlan2008.htm confirms this.

Should you need to write to your MP, the contact is Derek Twigg MP, the minister who:
"Leads on:
Service personnel issues including Recruitment, basic training, and education; Service Personnel and Veterans Agency including Pay and Pensions;"

Pension Forecast

I emailed Glasgow for a pension forecast and had a nice email by return stating, this needs to be made in writing. So sent for a forecast and had this sent within a week (email said should take up to 4-5 weeks). As far as I'm concerned the people in the Glasgow have been very helpful.
