"Since when Thales is a british outfit ??????"

RD- I think you'll find that Thales have employed Bristol based BMT to design their carrier

Thales isn't but BMT is and they are designing it as a subcontractor to Thales.

Thought Thales were multinational?

Anyhow........I saw something interesting on the Defence Contracts Bulletin, dated 11 August.

Possible Purchase of 2 CVF Ship Design Delta Models

The Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) IPT has a possible competitive requirement for two high-quality, 1:200 (1400mm) scale models of the current design -....

Final testing before giving construction the go ahead?

I hate to sound pessimistic, but as the size of model isn't big enough to do R&P or structural testing with, I can only assume the IPT wants to have something to put in Shabbywood to say "no, really - we have bought two carriers - and here they are!"

Back in the real world.... Much talk of 801 and 800 NAS sharing a pool of just 12 aircraft. A really powerful strike package we are putting together here isn't it? Its enough to make you weep.

Maybe they wouldn't have to pool together if the RN was capable of manning it's share of JFH.

12 Harrier GR9's between two Naval Air squadrons? What, with another two carrier capable RAF GR7/9 squadrons that is terrible compared to the MN equivalent of ONE squadron of less than ten Rafale on a single barely deployabe carrier...................................................

rduarte, you are a complete **** but very funny!

Today the french navy has 12 ( still 48 more to go) Rafale, and 52 SEM,in one CVN who challenge the 2 CVS ( even 3).

pr00ne that s you who are funny!

The key being "French Navy." While I bet their on-board cuisine is top-notch, filling the holds with cheese and garlic and not weapons does tend to detract from the combat capability.

See, I did it myself! Put French and combat capability in nearly the same sentence

So strange French person, you find the fact that Navaleye states that there is a RUMOUR that half of the carrier capable Harrier squadrons will share the same amount of aircrat as the entire French Navy funny? Why?

Fact is that means it has taken the French an AGE to come up with 12 carrier capable aircraft, I find that a wee bit funnier. While I am a little miffed about the prospect of 800 and 801 NAS only having 12 a/c between them, that IS only half the squadrons and at least the RN/RAF actually USE them, which is more than can be said for the MN and the Rafale!

Aeronautique navale = 12 + 52 = 64

Armee de l air = 380 fighters ( rafales+2000+f-1)

Armee de terre = 600 helos

I think is more that the brits have.

I think that the French had more aircraft than the Germans.

And the Vietnamese.

And the Algerians.

Didn't make much difference though.

Do you ,really think ,UK can beat France ?
I don t think so !
And let me tell you,if Argentina had take the Malvinas in 1983 , the GB would not be able to take them back.
And more ,if the US did not help you and France did sell the exocet toArgentina ,you would lose this war .Fair enough ?

For the second time. France and the UK will never go to war, so this debate is pointless and futile.

If Argentina has waited until 1983, then a recovery would have been more difficult, but still possible. Think SSNs.

I see the logic in not having more planes than pilots in a given squadron. Last time I heard there was a core of well over 20 trained pilots at Yeovs. Did some take a wrong turn on the way to Rutland?
