But why couldn't he make it to Qantas ? |
Unbelievably, this bloke who operates trains in Australia reached out to me in my private messages, trying to tell me how great his job is compared to being a captain at Emirates.

Where do you work flydubai? Wouldn’t get out of bed for that gig

However, looking at your „name”… A clown remains to be a clown, no matter what you think you are! |
There was a A380 Skipper who was made redundant during COVID and found a job as a train driver back home in Europe…… he never came back to EK!

Because SOP is right, there is nothing unbelievable about it. There are many jobs out there, being by far better than being a captain at EK…

There are many skippers and FOs made redundant during COVID, all over the world, who are much happier, than those left in the toxic atmosphere at EK, which EK sadly is.
Outside UAE, where you have rights, if the company tries to change your contract, you have a union to defend you, and SOP's where there is a genuine FDM, where you are not hauled in for investigation, if you were 20' low at the FAF, and given a warning letter. (Long serving EK TRE standards mate had this bollox). You can make lots of $$$$ but at what price to health and sanity. Yes Dubai is a glamorous, place with opportunities, but the summers truly suck, and you are away from family and friends. Have a 10 year plan and make your exit plans yourself, not by EK in a pandemic. Keep your nose clean, stay off managements radar, no drama, work hard, there is some luck involved. I never had any "meetings' in my time, apart from upgrade interview. Never file an ASR, unless you have to, ie an event which is monitored via FDM parameters, or others seeing an event. EK peeps may say there are no consequences, if you file and ASR. But that isn't the truth, you card will be marked... Don't get sick, it will affect you. I understand the system has gotten even worse, which affects those with unfortunate long term sickness. EK do support family and friends, and I know a mate whose wife has had great support. But it isn't uniform in its application. Anyhow, go in with you eyes wide open. You will fly some great challenging routes, on great aircraft and with great crews. EGGW. |

Very well said! Right to the point. I am not a COVID victim and „pulled the plug” on my own terms. But during my time (apart from my Upgrade interview), I had the pleasure of being called into the office twice. Both „chats” had nothing to do with actual flying related issues. Quite annoying, receiving a call at 08:00AM in the morning after a night turn-around with 45 minutes of sleep… Just to tell you, you are expected to report in the office at 10:00AM. They simply don’t care… |
You’d think nobody would come after Covid but we still get low houred useless baby face beckhams to baby sit. The Brit FOs are the worst as they come with a sense of entitlement and a lack of ability.
The same applies to many of the DECs we took on the 330 who should never have got on the 380 fleet- I wouldn’t trust them to polish my boots. |

Ex EK skipper, Booted out during the COVID purge.
While clearly brutal, at the time of the sackings, being wrenched from familiarity and income, I have been fortunate enough to have found work in the US. In hindsight, I wish I had left EK years earlier. My current gig pays way more than EK ever did, the flying is way better and more diverse, and management is truly fantastic. There is zero fear culture. Beers 🍻 to be had with the chief pilot regularly, and the ability to base yourself anywhere in the world. i know that not everyone fired from EK can get such a gig, but listening to other mates who have gone on to other careers since EK, I honestly don’t know of any who regret leaving EK. I also don’t begrudge any folk who returned to EK, I just feel sorry for them. |
