MT. Depends on what you call the norm. EK have in the past offered DEC contracts although I think it was at least 10 years ago or more.

Mack Tuck 18th May 2006 14:09

Correct but hasnt been the norm for a long while. You are talking about 10-12 years since the last lot; not really relevant.

gatvol2006 18th May 2006 14:12

Stay in NZ

Hey Kiwi r4, I suggest U stay in NZ, unlike your countrymen me thinks U R a whimp and won't make it in the land of sand and camels, bye!:=

filejw 18th May 2006 14:43

10 to 12 yrs is yesterday in the M.E. and anybody that goes there should know that.

kiwi_r4 18th May 2006 22:25

Hi Tail Rota,

Thank you for taking the time and putting in such a great effort. Returning back to edit after a few hours shows that you’re trying hard. Well done!

Regards,

Kiwi.

Hi Gatvol2006,

One simple question for you.

Why do you think I’m a wimp?
(whimp?. either wimp or whimper, which one do you mean?)

Regards,

Kiwi.

kiwi_r4 18th May 2006 22:40

Hi Mack Tuck,

Thank you for your post.

Manners and respect. I had no idea it was prerequisite for posting in the ME forum. Please open your eyes and peruse a few posts in the forum, manners and respect went out the door way before my arrival. I do my best to act civil with the idiots.

Please be honest with yourself for just a moment or two;

Hypothetical situation (I’m guessing!?)

If Vietnam Airlines offered you the position as a DEC. Supplied the following from your “list” as a package.

* A nice, safe setting for your family.

* A good school for your children

* A lovely villa in a good area

* Assistance with purchasing a vehicle, or perhaps a car being supplied

* Staff travel for your family, and even extended family

In other words, better situations than you have now.

But VN advise you, a select few will not welcome you with open arms. They may post rather unfortunate things about you on a website; perhaps not even share there toys with you. What would you do Mack Tuck?

I’m guessing we wouldn’t see you for dust as you smoke the tyres of your car heading to DXB Airport to take up the job. Because if you don’t, the guy sitting next to you will!

Regards,

Kiwi.

Hi Everybody,
talking about DEC's, ive just flown with one today from a short layover in Europe. And surely this Guy is living up to the extreme expectations of his colleagues in EK.
- No Prelim takeoff briefing, no taxi briefing(proving at the end, he doesn't know where to turn), doesn't discuss A/C status;ending up me reading the same stuff over again.
- Banked the A/C more than 30 degrees while manually flying it, and only correcting it after my 3rd callout...(oh boy, oh boy, this guy must really be tired).
- bit of turbulence enroute, told him to turn on the Sign, but he didn't bother; then we were kicked so suddenly that i made it first before he can actually raised his finger from his Sudoku...( gosh what a day really...)
- DXB; no exemptions, no briefing as well, so i have to brief myself silently....i would be happy if he could just said standard briefing.. believed it, not even. What was funny though, he taxied the A/C all the way inside "J", only to find out he doesn't know where we'll park.
- for his closing remark, not even a thank you to the Crew or me( even if he doesn't mean it)...
Now I am free of him(until the next, of course), its time to give myself a good rest and relieved myself of all those stress.

P.S. to make it clear, I am NOT generalizing DEC's on what had happen to me today.
to those guys trying EK interview, i wish you the Best results:ok:

howdy cessna

Yeah, of course some sort of takeoff briefing should be done. As for the "sign", your feel for turbulence might differ a little from mine. The way I see taxiing, one guy drives, the other navigates. In this region we work with people from all over the world who do things a little differently than we do or have done, but as long as you get where you're going, smoothly and safely with some semblance of SOP's, go home and forget about it, tomorrow will be better.

Hi Sec3,
I affirm what you have said, that we work in a region of Multi Cultural environment, but come to think of it, didn't we all passed through and brought up to a level of standards acceptable to the company, and breaks the differences of where we came from? If one disregards SOP's, could you consider it safe and acceptable?, wherein fact its not the way you've been trained to do.
A mere resemblance of SOP's or ending safe NOW at home is not always an excuse to forget things that had happen. Moreso, it must be a reminder,to constantly keep an eye to this kind of guys more closely...the next time.

PS. Tomorrow is a new day, just can't wait!

Cheers,
Cessna

Tail Rota 20th May 2006 13:58

Hi Cesnna

My advice to you is dont change a thing. You have good standards so maintain them. If the guy next to you isnt following SOP then make sure you are.:ok: .........Remember if it all turns to KAKA for ya ........do your job and make sure he is doing his. You are like 99.999% of pilots at EK this guy is a wild card and will be singled out before long:} .

Chances are, if what you say is true, he is probably already known.

In an extreme case.......and I mean extreme case........... If you are still not happy....then call him......... tell him what a D:mad: K head he was and you want to take it further. Notify flight saftey or your Fleet Manager............unless of course it was your Fleet Manager .......in that case disregard everthing I have just said and look forward to the next flight you have with him. :E

MATE DONT LOOSE SLEEP OVER SOME OTHER IDIOTS POOR STANDARS

stay safe

TR:ok:

I hope Kiwi r4 d2 doesnt see this as a Dear Abby thread ...does she?

kiwi_r4 21st May 2006 00:12

Hi Tail Rota,

Please feel free to take on the "agony aunt" role if that makes your wheels spin. The way you empathize with people and openly give advice is sickening. You will do well.

Important to note though;

You must act professional. Like me.
No swearing. Like me.
Repect and manners. Like me.

You will not be remunerated.

Regards,

Kiwi.

PS. Great save the other day. With "wrighting" and "writing". I was really beginning to think english is your third language.

Ghostflyer 21st May 2006 03:32

But you keep saying 'k*wi'. Couldn't bring myself to 'writ' it. That is a swear word in some parts of the world!:}

Ghostflyer 21st May 2006 03:36

It means you didn't get in this time but you are not a hopeless case. Think about why you may have screwed up this time, take steps to improve in those areas and have another go in a year.

kiwi_r4 21st May 2006 05:27

Hi Ghostflyer,

May I ask you a couple of questions?

Which Planet did you enter our atmosphere from? and did you arrive accompanied with a return ticket?

On your travels here did you happen to crash into an Earthling named "Toad Hall" who is presumed missing.

Regards,

Kiwi.

K*wi,

Respect and manners. Like me
It wasn't very nice or respectful of you to ask me to return to my home planet. I'm only here for the fishing and got a bite the first time. Line has run to 1000m already, just waiting to pull it in...its a big one!

Never heard of Toad Hall but then again he is a bit of a Newbie not unlike others on this thread.

Anyway back to the thread at hand, does anyone have any idea what the point of it is?

Ghostie:oh:

kiwi_r4 21st May 2006 08:04

Fishing?

Hi Ghostflyer or Ghostie (which do you prefer),

Lucky for you there are plenty of fish in the sea. Good luck.
How long is your line by the way?

Regarding your question "point of thread". That is a very good question.

Originally it was about the Physcometric interview, then we tried unsuccessfully to discuss the DEC issue. Today we have gone from agony aunt to a fishing show! So you tell me? In between discussions we debate (sulk and throw tantrums).

Care to join?

Regards,

KIwi.

4HP, this thread has degenerated to personal mud slinging and is doing more harm than anything else. I think it should be struck off the site.
