Well obviously you are new in the aviation world, and you don't know anyone currently working for Emirates.....

Have you ever been to Dubai????

Before you go to the interview I would strongly reccommend that you speak with some of their pilots, I did! The result: I've refused already 2 interviews!!!!!

You have to really go & see there & decide according to your current situation.
I've already emailed you the details about the interview so its not a big deal.
The thing is you have to compare everything objectively with your present job & living conditions.
I've gone there to see the life style & living conditions last two years by spending my holidays there.
Then I compared the social security,salary,command upgrade times etc etc,& I took it.it was a good offer for me.in my present company I have at least 5 years to command(I've been on the right seat for 6 years now) , no social security,no license insurance, less salary & huge tax rates,I am already flying 110hrs a month,I've flown 1000hrs in 2004 etc etc

Maybe for alot of guys here it was a good offer when they took it but its not anymore.But it will take at least 5-10 years for EK to become worse than my present company.And who knows what the conditions will be in my present company in 5-10 years.

As I said GO,SEE & decide for yourself.

its an Eastern Europe Flag Carrier.I can't give the name on this forum cause I am in the process of resigning.I don't want to mess things up.

So as I said my friend all the conditions differ everywhere.Looks like you are happy where you are.Which is good.And I was not happy & I found better conditions.

Here are the answers to your questions:

First, I am like you guys, I thought that EK was the perfect company, keep in mind that for the last 5 years I have been going to Dubai every months with my present company......

So, because the grass looked greener I too send an application, Emirates has new aircrafts, they are expanding, Dubai is a nice and clean city....Etc..... and at the time guys were looking at less than 2 years for an upgrade, so not to bad!

Of course the salary is **** (3700 Euros/Month), half of what a first officer in my company makes, but what the hell I thought that maybe it was the price to pay for "job security".

At the end of last year, exactly 2 weeks after I was told that I was getting an upgrade with my present employer, EK offered me an interview.
Because I much prefer live in Europe and take home 10.000 Euros than 3.700 in Dubai, I wrote back saying that I wasn't interested anymore, thanks but no thanks!

I was surprised to receive another invitation.....I presume they didn't get the message!!!!!

Also I have friends (Capts and FOs) working for Emirates, all of them told me NOT to come, actually they are all applying for other jobs!!!!

Go and have the interview and take a look around.

I reckon if you have a family then DXB can be a nice place to be, especially for them.
You will work hard, sometimes very ! but at least all your hard work will be on decent, well maintained heavy equipment.

Remember also that an interview at this time of year shows the nicest DXB weather ( although it rained last night !! ) and is NOT representative of all year round.

Money is an issue, isn't it always, but the latest villas being issued are some of the best ever.

I advise you to talk to some GOOD friends already there.

Hi all,

I have been invited to an interview with EK in April 2005 (F/O), and would like to ask a couple of questions of the pilots, in particular those who have been through the selection program recently.

1. Is anyone able to PM me with any current tips and information on what questions they like to ask (tech, personal, etc) such that I may have a better insight into the current interview process.

(I have done extensive research on these forums, and have gleaned a lot of information, but am after any specific info from recent candidates)

2. Is it possible for me to travel in the jumpseat on the flight deck whilst travelling on a subload ticket if the aircraft is full and I can't get a seat down the back to come over for the interview?

(Whilst I know a full ticket would solve that possible dilemma, I am afraid I just don't have that sort of spare money at such short notice to spend out of our family budget)

I have read everyone's opinions on working for Emirates, so am not after anymore information on working conditions and the like, but help with the selection program itself as a fellow pilot.

EKCANDIDATE, regarding your second point about the jumpseat. Even an Emirates Captain can't get a jumpseat when travelling on an Emirates flight. Perhaps that tells you a little about the airline. Best of luck.

Do you know that EK F/O's leave to join Ryan or Easy as F/O's, maybe you should think why somebody leaves a state carrier to join a low cost carrier. I wonder how long it will take you till you do the same.

just curious to know your experience level having been selected for interview and how long after apllication did you have to wait.

i am currently at application stage and have heard nothing for a 6 months

You had better start saving your pennies , your salary here will not cover your cost of living.
Buy a full fare and get some frequent flyer points so when you leave you can use the points for an upgrade to business class ....:ok:

I wish you all the best for your interview, and hope that EK is the right airline for you.
You should take careful note of the issue you raise about travelling on the jumpseat.
When you come for your interview you will most likely leave with the impression that EK is a company that values its employees. I can tell you now that actions speak far louder than words, and the reality is that EK makes you pay for your own airfare, and under no circumstances will they give you any assistance with travel, let alone offer a jump seat.

As previously stated, current staff can not get a jumpseat, and that is the biggest insight you will get as to how EK really value their employees, prior to actually moving here.

I used to work for a well known European carrier who,like Emirates and MANY OTHER Airlines,also refuse jumpseat travel as a result of 9/11.Many of these restrictions were imposed upon them by their regulatory authority. If jumpseat travel is your criteria for judging an Airline then good luck in your career choice!

As above, in addition to asking the question;
Exactly how many Pilots have left for Easy and Ryanair because as far as i'm aware it's one ex Ryan Captain returning as before.Even if it there is one other, hardly a mass exodus eh?

The point is we had the no jumpseat policy before 9/11
