Go there, take as much cash away from the muppets running those airlines and leave. For some reason the incompetents in charge think that living in some of those cities is desirable in its own right, Dubai was barely tolerable whilst I was there but I was there for the tax free money, I really didn't care about shiny buildings, the luxury lifestyle or brunch! They will use you so use them right back, take every bit of cash they offer and get as much of it out of there as possible, do not succumb to the lifestyle you will leave broke...

Dubai is proof that you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter........

PS thanks Tim for the school fees and my collection of branded cutlery from first......

Mad757, couldn't have said it any better. The objective should be clear when entering the ME; make and save the cash, don't waste a cent...leave.

You will have a huge pot in a very small amount of time...likewise it's very easy to do the opposite and come away with little.

Additionally, don't get divorced! But to tie it together, unfortunately those I've seen getting divorced along the way, many were ones who'd fallen into the desirous lifestyle you've wisely suggested to avoid.

When you join an airline in the Middle East, you are given two buckets. One is for the money and the other is for the s**t, when either one fills up you leave.

You have every right to take the money and leave, just wouldn't be proud of myself by stealing stuff that doesn't belong to me and brag about it.

Course I didn't steal the cutlery you cretin! All tongue in cheek dear boy. However I did participate in malicious compliance and used far more fuel than necessary, far more expensive to the company than a few bits of crappy cutlery, yet all within the OMA. Pretty sure I wasn't the only one either, my only regret is that it wasn't very professional but I complied with OMA requirements while wasting shed loads of fuel and bringing a lovely fuzzy warm feeling.....

Keeping up with the Jones' ( no offence to those who are actually named Jones) cost some pilots dearly ! The money bucket fills up faster without expensive cars and boats and...

With the salary reductions in QR you won’t fill the money bucket, definitely you will fill the other bucket and really fast.

There are talks of Revised Contract & Possibly Reduction in Education allowance & House Allowance as well”. Tough times ahead! Qatar itself is over inflated & expensive country/city to live in.

completly untrue. If you have a look at load numbers in australia/nz demand has bounced back VERY quickly. same as what happened after the SARS outbreak. People want and need to travel, it wont take long for numbers to recover. It all comes down to having the the flight there

It’s hub and spoke that will bounce back first. The demand for long haul P2P and especially ULH P2P will be much slower.

A380 hub and spoke is a different matter however! But if more airlines fall by the wayside, don’t rule it out.
