I really hope that doesn’t happen. After being on unpaid leave for nearly 8 months already and just when you’ve wasted all your cash they pull a stunt like that?
Yeah, sounds like something they are very capable of, But I doubt it will come to it.

Heard the same . are our local elite pilot extraordinaries immune again?
We really have become a pathetic bunch. What kind of expat are we going to attract or retain.
Middle East ain’t where the future lies.

Not exactly free easy money. They were made redundant and then when their notice was up and pay stopped, they got 25% basic because they were unable to be repatriated due to Covid restrictions.

What about our great human factors manager. Was sending graphs about denial, acceptance and recovery this time last year. Then went missing months . Embarrassment to himself and the company.

The LOWP guys could have been giving something similar.
An allowance to buy food?
Instead there are Facebook groups giving away vouchers so these guys can survive.
Yet nobody cares.
Now they even want to close this thread.
So the LOWP boys can be completely forgotten about.
I can’t work out why you people don’t see the harm that’s being done.

Free house, bills paid, medical, kids in school, staff travel, vaccinated, first to be called back and endless free time to do other work.
Terrible deal?
It’s only those that refuse to do anything else than fly a380s that are struggling.
Get a job. Join the real World.
It will be a great story to tell about the time you had to slum it at Mcgettigans.

I’ve been kicking around in this industry for a very long time (currently on the B777). I went from TP to B737. I have to say, the TP was the most difficult thing I’ve ever flown and I didn’t find the transition to jets difficult at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite as I quickly discovered there was much less to do. If a TP guy struggles on a jet conversion it’s possible he’d 1) struggle on any conversion or 2) the training is a bit pants.

Fatbus, I think that’s a little disingenuous, times are pretty bad for us all. I was made redundant but still have sympathy for people who are not getting paid and have to put food on the table, even if they are still technically employed. We are all in the sh@t just the depth that varies.

Easy know that you are not dealing with any of the issues in this forum.
You’ve not been made redundant nor are you on LWOP.
Why do you come on here and write such rubbish?
You’ve never used a VPN?
Are you from the past? I guess typing on pprune is pushing the limits of your abilities.

Xulu was referring to a non flying( I think ) . I was also referring to only LWOP who seem to be feel hard done by over those made redundant. I have total sympathy for all those effected but more so to those made redundant. Flying jobs are few and far between based on nationality/ country. I know way too many in both situations and few have found jobs , some making the best of the situation either working non flying jobs or just spending “free” time with family ( travelling or not ) . It’s a hard reality check for some and it seems that it’s not going to improve as TC seems to think . Starting rumours that LWOP pilots were going to be made redundant only gets people upset for nothing . To me that’s not supporting your fellow pilots regardless of which side of the fence you are on . I have always said “ good luck to everyone caught up in this bad chain of events”

Talk to any LWOP pilot, none of them are looking for sympathy and are just trying to work with what was handed to them. Unlike those made redundant, LWOP folks did not get access to a big fat provident fund payout to survive the next few months, and therefore are relying on whatever savings were there just prior to the pandemic. Great to have company housing, but food isn't cheap nor cellphone/internet charges. Some have returned to their home countries and obtained temporary jobs, but those unable to do so do not have many options to work in Dubai - have you ever seen an European uber driver here? An Australian Talabat delivery boy? No. Job options are next to nil, and you need the company's permission to work said job should you find one. Money slowly running out without any communication from the company as to how long we are expected to sit around burning our cash reserves. Very clear that the world is not improving, yet EK happy to dangle a carrot infront of those LWOP people, putting out stories in the media about 30 to 40 A380s flying by late summer or winter. Forget it, won't happen. I feel for those made redundant, the way it was done was absolutely classless, and the way the LWOP are expected to just cling on to their 'jobs' is also a bit ridiculous. People are reaching their limits and soon many will have to resign, just to obtain the provident fund to survive. Again, no one is asking for sympathy, LWOP sure is better than redundancy, but with limited options to work and savings running out, many will have to self-impose redundancy too. The 380 is certainly not an appropriate airplane to be operating at the moment, hence why no one else is doing it!
