Double Standards
Having lived in the Middle East for more than two decades one would think that one would get used to double standards however every now and then something comes along that really magnifies the duplicity.
We are bombarded with emails, updates, corporate communications and a vast array of other means pointing out the company policies on Social media. The EK OMA specifically prohibits the use of recording devices on the Flight deck and company policy prohibits the posting of such on social media yet this is ok ?

I’m not an instagrammer or facebooker but I can only imagine the consequences of one of us mere mortals posting something like this. The final warning, if not the severance letter would have been on the printer before the Voyage report acknowledgement. I recall an incident in the not too distant past of a crew being offered an early repatriation ticket for taking a picture during an Technical delay in CMB.
Because of her Royal status this lady is afforded huge latitudes like a one on one sim session with one of the training managers to help recover from the indignity of lowering the landing threshold elevation of the runway in KWI and rendering the aircraft AOG.
In an authoritarian autocracy under which most Middle East residents live it is not possible to point out the ridiculous double standards without the threat of ones head being chopped off (figuratively) Hence the blocking of any form of free speech such as PPrunne. Despite years of conditioning there will always be something that will really get under your skin. For me this is it.

That video is taken in the simulator and not on the way to Milan!
Not only does it not look like a real aircraft in the video (scratched metal coaming on the glareshield?) but fellow Boeing boys and girls, should be able to spot the blank thrust FMA on the left!!!

The gear lever being down, and the flap handle set to 30 are a bit of a give away too.

You guys have a way better eye for detail than me. Well spotted super sleuths. Perhaps all my vitriol was unfounded but then again what an unbelievable amount of fake B.S. I take back everything I said about the OMA etc. What a sad testimony for our profession that a simulation should be broadcast as a heroic act. Can I please have national media coverage when I do my next PPC and clutch survival from the certain jaws of death. I expect a Gold Najm no less.

Gulf,
You know as well as everyone else that the ME is full of double standards, copious amounts of bluster and BS. Why should this surprise you? As much as this is a double standard and would annoy any self respecting western crew member, it should annoy her to the same degree to be used by "firm" to promote their own self interest. I hope she realizes that she is no different than anyone else when it comes to being used for the gain of the company....just like Barbie (Ashley) was although HTC seems to think otherwise.

So.....
A member of a European royal family or, say, the offspring of a major share-holder or senior executive of an American airline would NEVER generate press or preferential treatment-
Right????

In a word..."yawn"...old news.
It's been this way for years... no photos on board or in flight... unless you are one of the EK corp comms pets wherein you can post as many vacuous selfies as you like...
I once recall one "Be There ambassador" posting up a pic that she was off to LA in F with one pax so easy flight etc... wherein a bunch of crew called her out in the comments to say according to iCrew she was actually on a Karachi...
double standards everywhere in that place, from how staff travel desk treat you vs other departments, office staff not responding to calls yet us expected to reply to emails even while away on trips... get used to It, it will only get worse

State examples please that are relevant to the global mindset of today and not of the 70's (or before) when there where none, or very few women in male dominated professions. EK have many, however they appear to also have a yesteryear comprehension of the modern world and how women fit into the workforce contained therein.

If a female Royal started flying for BA, it would be all over the tabloids.

Well, recently two people in their 30's got married. The family heritage of one of them, a red-head, and the profession of the other, a rather pretty mixed race actress, caused a great deal of press.
If a female Royal started flying for BA, it would be all over the tabloids.

With regard to the royal wedding I'd say that they as a couple have embraced the changing mindset of severely outdated cross cultural and class class divides. Good on them!
Just checking the calendar...yep, it says its 2018, we have advanced quite a lot with treating women as equals since the 1800's....or so I'd like to think. Let's forget about her title for just a moment, EK has hired many women for many differing roles, why should this one have any special attention? It's not fair to the many women before her that received no praise and wouldn't expect or welcome any. In this day and age if we still find need to elevate these "accomplishments" in what can only be described as " a cheesy attempt" to garner recognition for the company, then we haven't really made much headway to embrace new attitudes towards women at all.

The status and rights of women has indeed gone ahead in leaps and bounds- but not equally across cultures or countries. That this young lady has crossed cultural boundaries is a good thing for which she should be congratulated- do you really think the reactions here, particularly the odious post from richardtheturd, are from people who celebrate the advancement of Women?
Not really relevant but which airline still does not employ women........?
The present king of the Netherlands flew anonymously for many years with KLM. In fact, it only became public knowledge when he ascended the throne and had to quit flying. Even inside KLM, few people knew their future king took the helm from time to time, and to help keep it a secret he always flew with the same skipper. Don't know of any other members of European royal families who've flown a commercial jet. And if there are, that's just further proof not everyone needs or seeks the attention.

But within KLM everybody with some knowledge about the operational side knew about him flying and if he flew he was present in the briefing area, walked the normal route to the airplane, etc.
It was not a secret within KLM and without.
It wasn't widely advertised though. Partly for security reasons and because the Dutch would sooner be jealous about it then proud. (As became clear when he transferred from the fokker 70 to the 737).
Gulf News, you are so correct about the spectacular level of double standards and hypocrisy prevalent in the ME. Over on LinkedIn there is a celebratory thread referring to the ‘CEO of the year’ award. This is for the airline that just over 2 years ago had a hull loss with significant fatalities and to my knowledge no report as to why. Yet the @rselicking responses are truly astonishing. You couldn’t make it up.
