A joke considering inflation in Dubai, and the recently announced profit

Very disappointed. Good progress with the profit share then completely shot down with a measly step increment. That won't keep anyone at EK let alone encourage newbies to join. Many more resignations forthcoming me thinks.

Well, if the stable door was already open it looks like the whole stable is going to come crashing down.

Step .... and .......nothing worth talking about

They were right when they said we needed to manage our expectations. This doesn't even cover the 5% VAT and put us back to where we were on December 31 2017, let alone the last few years of nothing and inflation in Dubai.......

Extremely disappointing, I would have needed to manage my managed expectations to even get halfway to this

Mismanagement

Wow! While it was obvious they've lost the plot a while back, this is truly astounding!

First, not to compensate for the contractual lost step from last year is unforgiveable. Even after the 2008 recession, we were compensated the following year when the economy recovered.

Second, the $1 per hour increase to hourly pay amounts to one tank of gas a month at a gas station. It's peanuts, not an amount that will stop the mass exodus.

Thirdly, to publish this gibberish so early in May is very foolish. It gives people 3 weeks to contemplate and action the resignation by June 1st.
Those who are contemplating it know very well that if you have kids in school, June 1 is the date you must resign in order not to pay back the
prorated education allowance. So expect 100+ resignation on that date.

Other changes while welcome are only company self serving. The age for command is strictly because we don't have any more candidates. The jumpseat is only because we can't afford to get pilots stuck on leave.

A total joke. If it wasnt so sad, I would be laughing. I am don't even really know what to say.

And now I need a staff travel ticket to ride in the jumpseat???? 100% asinine.

Wow how easily EK managers fooled us.

Since I have joined the company 4 years ago I have only seen one step increment. Let’s assume at time of joining my basic was 25000dhs. Now 5 weeks profit share, I roughly get 30000 Dhs. Now devide this 5 weeks profit share by 3 years (since in 4 years only 1 step). So basically this 5 % profit share is nothing but same money they stole from me. So if I started at 25000 basic after 4 years @3%increment every year my basic today should have been 27317dhs . So now after this step It should have become 28137 dhs. where as in last 4 years company announced only one step so from my starting basic of 25000 dhs I have only reached 26522 dhs (after this 2nd step increment). Now compared to 28137 I am would only be getting 26522. i.e I am losing 1615 dhs every month that’s 19380 in one year.....this 25000 is just an arbitrary figure just to present the calculation......so just imagine how much money each one of us losing if we replace 25000 with our basic 4 years back and then calculate.....do your maths and enjoy EK PEANUTS....

Time to go fishing for pilots fleeing worn-torn, third-world countries or cadet school. Single FO? - no problem. With Wife and Kids? - Big problem.

They are clearly going to rely on their cadet programme going forward - so why not just go to CTC/OAA now and sweep up all the cadets? At least they speak English.

An absolute insult.

So basically .... NO pay raise. The step is contractual. Whilst I’m very thankful for lifting the jump seat , bidding and swapping restrictions those are zero cost items that were maliciously taken away from the pilot group and now just given back ...

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever "pay" to ride in the jumpseat.

Make no bones about it - this is a significant pay cut.

This was possibly the most consequential Pay Review in five years.

This step was due from last year, but by not giving 6% today - this is now a 3% pay cut (more with retro of 12 mos).

With VAT we are down 20% + in ten years.

Putting Jump seat, rostering rules, upgrade age etc into the Pay Review adds insult to injury by profoundly underestimating the intelligence of the audience.

It has nothing to do with the Pay Review but by labeling it Pay Review and general enhancements - it actually underscores how poor they know this is - hence the need to throw in the add-ons to soften the blow.

Even in GFC, they made up the following year.

EK pilots just took a pay cut after announcing a $1.1bn profit in an age of a global pilot shortage.

This is bad, very bad.

It could be worse. They could have... nah. It's the worst. A bit surreal. They could have even hinted it in the forum, to keep down expectations.
I really hope no company goes bankrupt soon. Although Monarch has, and not one person applied...
Interesting as a study case surely.

Message from the Middle East front :

In reply to probably Emirates worst decision to date ( and there’s been a few ) the 2018 pay review .

Never has a profit share been received with so little enthusiasm. There will be those who say ‘ thieves’, those that say ‘ great ‘ and those who say ‘ well it’s better than nothing ‘ but the total apathy remains . Why ? Because a quick cash injection isn’t going to solve the underlying issues .
The company is now desperately short of pilots . So short it is recruiting wannabes who need to be given ‘ATPL’ classes to refresh their total inexperience ( not their fault ) and post their brief training will place a huge strain on line Captains who are struggling with the plethora of company threats and regulations to some dangerous and ridiculous places so EK can make more profit before said wannabe appears next to him/her.

So how can they solve this ? Why are so many looking at China ( and let’s face it if it wasn’t an NASA medical and another ATPL exam, EK wouldn’t have a single pilot left ) .

Money , yes to some extent but rostering and lifestyle is the area that can solve their problem .
If you want pilots to work to the maximum until they call sick or fatigued, do it in blocks . Ie month on month off ( for all not just the ‘ chosen few’) 20/10 or 16/14 like China is already doing . What is the point of one or two days off between fatiguing flights . Pointless .

But , to do this you need plenty of manpower and they don’t have it . Far far from it .

Stop lying , stop the stupid ‘ messages from ‘ and face up to the facts .

You need EXPERIENCED good pilots . You need to spend money to attract them and you need to retain them .

Yes it’s going to be very expensive now you are in such a rut. If salaries and allowances had been raised significantly to get the manpower up , rostering could then become humane and tailored and salaries need not be raised again for many years ( like the last 10 ) thus recovering the initial outlay.

The miserly increase in ‘ overtime ‘ pay ? Why ? Everyone has had enough after their 100 rostered hrs month after month let alone contemplating overtime .

The jump seat policy is ridiculous and simply been hastily thrown in to appease the freighter guys who have been lied too again .

If nothing changes the downward spiral will continue and another crash has to be around the corner .

Very disappointed.

The cherry on the cake is that if you swap into productivity you agree to do so at the normal hourly rate and not the productivity rate . These muppets just can't help themselves.

To put rostering stuff on the pay review is a new low.
