The Ultimate 777 vs A380 Thread
Thread Starter
I was more interested in the PILOT perspective Wiz, of operating the two types. Hence wanting the feed back from those who have flown both. So far it seems, of the 2 or 3 guys that have flown both, they prefer the 380. I wasn't after the macro economics of operating from a company's perspective.

Tell me which airplane you prefer based on technical specs and certain criteria, and I'll tell you what a vagina feels like.
380: Seats are more comfortable. More days off on your roster. Served by newbies. Always have wifi.
777: Flies low, less computers, actual control column, half the engines, and dwindling rosters.

Both do the job well Rexy. Nothing will carry 350 pax for 11-12 hours cheaper than a 773er. Nothing else will carry 500 for up to 16hrs than a 380.
The seats and less noise, higher ALT (smoother cruise) of the 380 make it less fatiguing. The lower speeds of the 380 close to the ground on departure and arrival make it easier to handle. On a crappy day I would prefer the 380. Never would have said that when I first went to the 330.
The 77x should have some of the modern stuff on it to make an nice aircraft to operate even nicer.
The pay is the same. Might have mentioned that.

Have I misinterpreted the first few posts, or is this just the biggest bragging contest with the rudest put downs on this sub forum yet? A pointless question with infantile posturing. I really hope I don't have to work with you, Rex, because by the attitude displayed here, I won't value your opinions either.

I may well have completely misinterpreted the tone of the posts, Rex. It's just that the AvB infighting on pprune as a whole and with ek is as tiresome as it is pointless.
We get paid the same and have equal lack of control over rosters. An aluminium tube is a tube. The A's wreck your upper back and shoulders while the B's wreck your lower back, but both are crippling. We know the 330/340 pilots suffer the worst rosters for now, with their lovely destinations about to be incorporated into the 777 roster. We know that, for now, the 380 has the best roster but that is being eroded with some night turns and more ULRs. All of that has been discussed.
So, what is the point behind an inflammatory but irrelevant thread which reveals no new information? I took it to be a senior guy bragging that he'd flown both, creating a little clique and saying that no-one else's opinion matters. I hope I have it wrong, but consider the posturing that goes on within this forum, that many of us don't know who eachother are and that the other guy is a good egg, and the limitiations of text communication, and then reread the first page with a just a mild dose of cynicism and I think you'll see how it could be interpreted that way.

Al- I guess I can see how you came to that conclusion. But seriously, I'm not searching for bragging rights. I flew the 330 and 340 for enough years to know about crap rosters. I have never flown a 777. I know that the 380 rosters are better, and the 777 rosters are declining.
I wanted to know, from a pilot perspective which one was nicer to operate, and hence wanted to hear from the only people to know ie the ones that have flown both types.
Don has given a pretty good summary.

8 years on the Boeing and just over a year on the big bus.
Rosters and actual working day on the 380 is far better than the Boeing, mainly due to the seats and low noise levels.
However on a ****ty day when its all going wrong I would plump for the Boeing every day. EICAS and its checklists are far more logical and thought out. And when the winds are howling as they tend to do in the UK winters I felt far more in control of the Boeing, as you were able to manually adjust power as required and crosswind landing really were a doddle as I felt connected to the machine rather than the slight disconnection I feel at the moment. This will probably change as the years and hours on the machine tick by.
