Ek Friegher flown by Thai pilots?

I went to work the other day to do a freighter flight, walked into the crew room at DWC and there's Three Thai Airways pilots, after polite conversation we got back on the bus and went to the jet thinking nothing more of it.

After 10 mins or so they get off the bus next to us and boarded one of our jets.

Anyone know what's going on?

Heard it was the 777. Next time you're out at DWC ask the engineers as they are they're full time and dispatch all of the flights. The tech log might also reveal some odd staff numbers. They would need a license validation at least.

Very interesting, especially since nothing more has come out of the bouncy castle about the Opting for Freighters thingy that CPB put out last month.

Don't see the lack of a GCAA licence being a problem. Surely EK would just tell the GCAA to issue a validation / endorsement based on their Thai licence.

Not my area of expertise but once you've got A6- on your rear end, surely you can't make a double registration. It's like registering at 2 different addresses to vote twice.

This also makes a mockery of AAR's assertion that we have enough pilots................

It only takes an Air Law exam and PPC (OPC/skills test/initial IR - I don't know the required sim thingy) to have a UAE ATPL issued... Isn't that what we have all done anyway?

Thai Rego would require a Thai AOC, far easier to just "validate" Thai licenses with a quick PPC and air law as WK states.

Does Thai have 77F 's painted in EK colours or did one of EK new 77F go stright to Thai ? But your right it would be easy to covert the pilots to UAE licence .

Exactly Wiz. I have asked a fellow EK sandweller, who would be in a position to know, and his reply was not heard anything about this or anyone else coming. Not saying it won't happen mind.

So take a large pinch of salt.

Could it have been this aircraft?

I know TNT have been recruiting recently so a deal with TG to supply crews wouldn't be impossible.

Contact your local union rep. They should be looking into it.

Not that this necessarily applies here, but Article 83 bis of the Chicago Convention would allow an aircraft to be transferred to a foreign regulator without a change in registration. Therefore, it's technically possible to have foreign license holders flying a particular aircraft under the surveillance of a foreign regulator. It would just require a 83 bis agreement to be signed between the two respective governments.

To register a plane you need an AOC. With the right connections easy to get. Even easier to shift an aircraft from UAE to Thai then.

I am sure it is no big deal to have a thai license validated in the UAE. After all they do what EK tells them to do(or someone really has other ideas about that).
So as well no big deal.

Finally - why would tell management to pilots about a deal they are working out with (maybe) Thai airways and their pilots? Especially if you have no real legal means down there to push your request.
