Except Filion I'm not taking the p.... I happened to get a nice bit of grass many years back so my kids could run around a decent size backyard, as they would if we were 'home'. I've done nothing to jeopardize the contractual obligation on my part i.e. no unlawful extensions, no pool/room additions, no leaving the a/c on no matter the time, day or year. My kids are expected to turn off lights and shut the taps off - one of my kids is even involved in an environmental group at school - so I can do without the judgement and lectures from the pseudo-environmentalists on the board. What it boils down to is that based on the company's villa allocation almost 10 years ago I'm now footing the extra cost of utilities that were supposedly covered as part of the original contract signed. Just another example of changed conditions. I'm guessing the 'cap' isn't about to get raised and, if anything, will only be made smaller in the coming years, '...in the name of the environment'....

Bad day at work....or just struggling after downing 3 Budweisers?

If you read my post, my initial one, you'll see that it was 'tongue in cheek'. How the hell do I know who Buford is and what size house he has and whether he has a bloody pool or not? The bike shed was reference to the very catalyst for this cap after one of our Swiss colleagues was discovered with an AC extension from his villa to the shed. It was because of idiots like him that we have this policy so if you want to rant, visit the accommodation department.....if you can stop frothing enough to string a sentence together.

And if you're going to use big words to impress, make sure you have a good comprehension of what they mean first eh! Your third paragraph merely confirms my second post in which I refer to discrimination and why I'm actually in agreement with Buford and Puff to fight the charge. Hardly being prosetylize if we're in agreement, is it?

I know people can struggle with British humour but do try to keep up old chap!

Whew. Wasn't sure how long I could go without a post from HTC about how awesome/smart/funny/loyal EK drone he is.

Oh, and how savvy of an investor he is.

of all the things going on at this place, you guys find the time to complain about this. No wonder we are where we are. Look at yourselves. Again, quit complaining on here and grow a pair of balls, walk in to your managers office and respectfully air your case.

For the majority making a career decision is not done based on the environment but once in situ acting like a responsible human being and getting your fam & kids to do their bit is wholly reasonable.

Intellectually tying the two together? Ha nice try.
Oh I see. So you're doing the "change from within" thing, is that it? Now that you're living in the country with the largest carbon footprint per capita on the planet, you're going to "do your bit"?

Honestly, I just couldn't write anything funnier if I tried.

You live in a desert. With man-made snow in a mall. With golf courses that consume massive amounts of the most precious substance on earth. Created by consuming massive amounts of energy to desalinate. The entire city is air-conditioned for most of the year, by energy produced by burning massive amounts of natural gas. The vehicle of choice for most pilots is certainly not a small car, or a hybrid. Is it? Massive glass structures designed solely for ego, not suitability for the environment. And on it goes.

Tell us all again, how is tying holier-than-thou scolding of a colleague for energy wastefulness some kind of intellectual leap from choosing to support such a place with your labour? The waste in Dubai is systemic, not the result of one or two bad choices about which type of light bulbs are more efficient.

Go ahead and be a "responsible human being", but at least be intellectually honest enough to admit it is a purely idealogical choice, not one with any chance of actually affecting anything in practical terms.

Not that there isn't value in sticking with your convictions - hey, it's a good example for the kiddies - but deluding oneself about the impact of your actions is somewhat....quixotic.

What is wrong with some people? Are you guys serious? This is so embarrassing! If you used too much water and electricity, then you should pay for it. Full stop. Just because you are flying a plane that burns a lot of fuel, the company should not charge you for your overconsumption of water?!?! Wow, that logic! Shocking some of you fly a plane for living. Really. Your flying at EK has nothing to do with the responsibilities you and your family have as human beings living on this planet. Sure Dubai is not a "green" city, but doesn't mean you can waste as much water as you want and not pay for it. And 400 dirhams? Wow, I hope it didn't hurt your paycheck. And yes, we can lecture him about water and electricity consumption! He used more than his allowance, so he needs to pay for the extra! Pretty much applies to most things in his life. Normal and responsible people know that and teach their children the same!
Good night!

The point, Dubai2004, is that it is a direct breech of what is written in our contract.

How many of your contractual entitlements do you just decide to give away?

Another thread goes south because there are basically two types of debaters;

The ones who tackle subject and argue from there ....fair enough...we agree to disagree

And then there are the guys that have a few beers, take it personally and hurl names...

Man up and fight the subject not the person. Insulting others is an admission that you don't have the skill set to argue the point ...so only one option...machine gun spray profanity & insults...(emotional control anyone?)

I stand by my post;

What Nolimit is saying (I disagree with); is that because this place is perversely non- enviro minded...then we as people living here have no right to argue that doing our little bit is the right thing because by the mere fact that we have chosen to come here completely invalidates our principles

Well if that's the case then if there is anything else here that is systemically flawed - education, justice, driving, manners in a Q ETC - then forget doing your bit with your kids homework, driving correctly, behaving properly in a Q

BECAUSE you all came here knowing that it was flawed so stop being hypocrites by trying to do the right thing..right?

(Still Xmas light burning through the night in my block)

At no point did I state : you are not entitled to free DEWA

Just act responsibly - on here - and in da hood

Peace & love
