DEWA deduction

Check your December payslips. Just noticed a DEWA cap deduction of almost 400dh taken from mine. Happy New Year!

harry the cod 22nd Jan 2016 06:18

Mate, you need to turn off the AC during winter and stop keeping the pool heater on. As for the climate controlled shed to keep the bikes from rusting........ :roll eyes:

Finally agree with Harry on something. Buford, grow up a little and try to protect this planet for your kids. You are paying an extra 400 dhs a month cos you obviously have no regard for excessive waste of our precious resources. Probably one of those guys who thinks since the company pays I will screw them on wasting as much electricity as i can.

White Knight 22nd Jan 2016 09:02

You must be really using a lot of juice buford... Even with a 4 bed and 5 people in the villa (and good size garden to water) I've never even been anywhere near the cap!

Notwithstanding the company contractual obligation to pay all utilities of course!!!

donpizmeov 22nd Jan 2016 09:39

A friend in Cedre Villas had an upstairs water pipe burst when family were out at the mall. Returned home to a flooded house. And two months later was charged Aed 800 for excess DEWA

puff m'call 22nd Jan 2016 11:22

I'm getting charged also. Now I'm looking for a good Lawyer!!

it's going to cost them way more in extra fuel!!!

And as for you pathetic Tree Huggers, how much carbon are you pumping out to the sky every time you go to work? more than you damn light bulbs that's for sure!!

harry the cod 22nd Jan 2016 12:35

Ah, come on Puff that's not fair! Not only do I try and single engine taxi every flight but a CDA is always attempted.....even in the US. That and the energy saving bulbs in the Cod household and the daily wife beatings for having the AC on too low. Kids walk to school in the summer (12k round trip) and I make the gardener water my 3 acre plot weekly using only a watering can. Takes him 7 hours but at $1 a day labour pay, I can afford it!

Joking aside, contractually you have all utilities paid for by Emirates. UAE Nationals get subsidised rates so the Company can't really charge you as the threshold is different for them. Therefore, by default, you are being discriminated against. Wouldn't look good in court, even in Dubai. With the current state of affairs and shortage of drivers, I'd fight it.

Having said that, to be over the limit does indeed reflect an excessive use of juice! Maybe an offer to reduce by next month would be the way forward?

PUFF

Way to go my man, that will teach them to screw with the pilots eh! Seriously dude, do you really think taking extra gas every flight will make a difference to this Companies bottom line? The only person who suffers is you. Not only will you likely receive a nice letter from the CP for 'above average' extra fuel, most of the F/O's you fly with will think you're a knob. Personally, I wouldn't blame them.

How old are you again? :ugh:

LHR Rain 22nd Jan 2016 23:26

These are all good points but we as pilots are missing the point. Emirates will pay all electricty, water and gas. Granted I have seen to many pilots with their front doors open during the summer but why we get bills is an indication of what type of company we slave for, but we already knew that.

Buford 23rd Jan 2016 01:50

No pool, no shed, switch the a/c off in winter & energy saving bulbs to boot. Not even a maid to clean the floors daily. Just happen to have one of the larger lots in DSO and a backyard with real grass - not the artificial stuff. Fact is, more money being removed from our pay checks that we have no control over & yet another contract 'tweak' that just appeared over the years. LHR Rain gets it. Harry, you gotta be one of the most condescending twats on here .

fatbus 23rd Jan 2016 04:58

If that's the case there might be a lot of guys close to the max in DSO. Maybe if there was a large number of guys complaining and threatening it might gets the max removed . Remember that accommodation has nothing to do with fleet and be careful how and who you address this issue.

gardenshed 23rd Jan 2016 05:50

Buford, can suggest that you get all the pipes checked for leaks etc.
Also make sure that your electric supply hadn't been hijacked by someone else.

shades 23rd Jan 2016 11:47

400 DHS :ugh: really.....wow feel for you man!

777boyindubai 23rd Jan 2016 12:50

Shades. As part of the contract that I and many others signed, EK are liable for all utilities including cooking gas. Some years ago, arbitrarily, they introduced a cap as a very small number of people were abusing the system and some EK manager wanted to make a bonus. However, it was contractual to receive ALL utilities. Which they changed illegally. I wrote to Ed and told him no way not happening and also wrote to the muppets in EK Accommodation saying the same thing.

It isn't about the 400 shekels. It is about those in the Puzzle Palace once again trying to screw the pilots. The price of wholesale gas has dropped and yet DEWA continue with the fuel surcharge and profit binge on the back of exhausted staff.

Dubai Inc, will face some serious Financial problems trying to service debts and keep the locals happy and pay for 2020.

This is an attempt at the usual greed knowing full well that EK are not subject to UAE Labour Law and will try anything to get one over on the pilot populace.

How would you feel if the contract you signed in good faith wasn't honoured?

fatbus 23rd Jan 2016 15:44

It also states in most accommodation regulations , no external modifications . If that was causing the higher usage than company can bill all they want.

Buford 23rd Jan 2016 16:57

No external modifications at our place, no extra room additions, just a larger than average plot that we've been in for almost 10 years. As usual the minority spoil it for the many but we all end up paying - external modifications or not.

LOL God the place is just comical. Pilots lecturing each other on saving the planet "for your kids".

Meanwhile earning their living in a desert with gold courses and an indoor ski hill.

But hey, get those low-flush toilets and CF light bulbs and it's all good, right?

The hypocrisy simply has no limits.

If you are living in Dubai and supporting the way things are done, YOU are the problem. You can't have it both ways: perpetuating the status quo and then sermonizing against it. It's beyond absurd.

The contract states that EK will pay the utilities. The cap is crap, an arbitrary attempt to reach into your pocket yet once again. You are correct to fight it, even if you will most assuredly lose.

springbok449 24th Jan 2016 01:08

Buford,

I would go gardenshed's way if I was you, even if you have a big plot of grass, water is actually the "cheap" part of the DEWA bill.
Especially is this is the first time you've reached you cap seems like something has changed in your villa consumption and it may not be you...

fliion 24th Jan 2016 04:17

Nolimit.

What a load of crap.

For the majority making a career decision is not done based on the environment but once in situ acting like a responsible human being and getting your fam & kids to do their bit is wholly reasonable.

Intellectually tying the two together? Ha nice try.

cerbus 24th Jan 2016 15:12

There is no way anyone in the middle east should lecture on the Green Planet idea. Most of us drive huge SUVs, have AC 9 months of the year and drink de-salinisation water. Most of everything we do and buy day to day is imported so that adds to the emissions. If you are into this idea that is a huge environmental carbon footprint and pending disaster but almost none of us think about on a daily basis.
Also none of us have question or are questioning why the company is now charging some pilots for DEWA bills. What does this say about the compnay and their operating practices?
