War In The Middle East
What are the chances of a war in the Middle East over the next 3 years?
"Inevitable" now seems to be the answer from many serious analysts over the world.
Iran is building the bomb. They have legitimate security reasons. Thousands of American troops on either flank. Several other countries, (none particularly friendly) in the region already have the bomb. For Iran it is a matter of national security.
Similarly Israel cannot let Iran have the bomb. Most there see it as a threat to their very existence. It must be stopped whatever the consequences.
America and Europe cannot change these facts. Their politicians will only dance around them, while dealing with more pressing local agendas.
Ultimately there will be a war and the many Arab states that have Iranian residents or Shiite populations will be sucked in. It is inevitable, however the timing is unknown. It will not be advertised and as history shows complacency will be the order of the day until it is upon us.
The direct effects of the war and the 200 - 300 dollar per barrel oil that will result will decimate the airline industry particularly in this "ideal hub location".
Thankfully for the airlines many pilots will simply flee for home. Along with the many others thise will cause the local economies to collapse overnight.
The Middle East is fraught will danger on many levels hence the salaries paid here. War is always around the corner. As is social upheaval, economic failure, monetry failure, legislative failure and good old bad driving.
The King of Saudi suggests war could be within a year. Keep a bag packed.

No not from Abu Dhabi. Why would they have an axe to grind? Don't get you on that one. Please explain.
Stirring the pot is one way of looking at it I guess. Not my intention though. I merely share what is growing concern, present a viewpoint and give appropriate caution for the event.
Hopefully there is a resolution but do you see any other outcome?

Hopefully the thought of mutual assured destruction (MAD) will prevent a nuclear war, or even a war with Iran full stop.
This threat (MAD) prevented the former USSR and the USA from starting a nuclear war, even though they were on the brink of it a couple of times. India and Pakistan have also restrained themselves for this very reason even though they have been in conflict for a long time.
If Iran were to attack Israel, surely they would know that the response from the USA would be annihilation.
Unfortunately the innocent people in all of this are the citizens of Iran. They have a nutcase leader that they didn't even vote for taking them down a very dangerous path.
Fingers crossed cool heads will prevail, or alternatively Iranians once again organise a revolution and cut the problem off at the head (pardon the pun).

One thing is for sure, if Iran was stupid enough to fire a bucketful of sunshine at a friendly western country, the United States would see to it that Tehran was turned into glass.

I say bring it on. This rock we all live on is overpopulated anyway and and it would save me having to explain over and over to every person who's ever seen some tv special on how wonderful Dubai is, why anyone would ever want to leave such a paradise...

Iran will never START the war, their nuclear ambition is mainly for "deterant" reasons , even Israel knows that.
why do you think Israelies are gubbling up all the land and properties
in the southern hemisphere countries (nuclear winter and radio active fall out resulting from nuclear wars will mainly effect northern hemisphere)?
because they know they will start the war and they will make it nuclear.

Oh my Dog... this is about the most pointless, stupid, senseless thread that I've read on pprune so far.
Maybe you should also see a gipsy to read your palm, or to lay the cards for you, in order to determine exactly the date when this world will come to an end.
I don't mind hysteric bs so much, but I do mind when it comes to generalizing comments against Moslems, Jews, Israel, Iran etc. - Please keep that sort of politics to the football-stadium and to the pub, if you must. It really doesn't belong into an aviation-forum.
I'm outta this thread now. So might as well save yourselves any abusive comments now, because I won't read them anyway.

The sentence in the first post that leapt out off the page at me was
I'm surprised someone else hasn't had a chuckle at that bit of wisdom. 'Credibility gap' is the phrase that comes to my mind after reading that.

Putting aside the OIL argument and thinking of it from a slightly different angle :
Money is sadly what rules this world in most cases, it is the worship of our times especially when times are bad and everything is up for sale !!
The region is a gold mine for most manufacturing lobbies in the west.
This fact will surely make the super powers think seriously before committing to a military campaign against Iran.
All other means failing, the eventual outcome will be for the region to finance the war directly or indirectly. The Kuwait experience is not too old for most of us to remember. Today they are the most modest nation in terms of spending in general, although their war was one of necessity and not choice.
It may be a war of necessity for Israel, but a war of choice for most countries in the region. if it happens, will lead to some serious impoverishment in the whole region just like a nuclear weapon effect.

Perhaps we could get lucky and have the whole region blown off the face of the earth so there is nothing left to fight over.
The Middle East always has been and always will be a hotbed of religious and racial fanaticism.
I wouldn't miss it or any of it's inhabitants for a second.
