If what Billy 34-kit is true, and I have no reason to doubt his frustration, then someone better get their finger out and do something about it. In all the years I've been in GF I have never received the salary even one day late.

Billy I know you work for GT, and I know GT initially had a few administrative problems which as far as I know have been resolved. If you are still experiencing problems why are you not addressing higher authorities? I would contact our VPO and make him aware of your situation and I am sure that if you are right he will make sure that you receive what is due to you.

Scan, first of all who told you that you or anyone else (other than Billy) is entitled to any kind of explanation. There is a very important point you need to understand here although really I find no reason why I have to explain this to you.
I support GF because I see that for the first time in our history positive things are happening to this airline. I see that our new management is sound, transparent and sincere in making this airline succeed, and above all they have a proven track record. I do expect to encounter problems on the long road to profitability, but what other choices do we have?

If our management don't deliver what they have promised I will be their harshest critic but lets first of all give them a chance. I once told Mr Hogan on this very forum when GT was first being launched "do not forget our people who have worked hard so many years" . His actions have made me feel he has taken note and is trying his best with the help of our VPO to constantly give us more. He re-enstated the 3% annual increment, he introduced bonuses (when we're still loosing money), he gave us free loss of income insurance all at a time when we still have a long way to go. Mr Hogan and our VPO are showing a commitment towards us and I support them for this very reason.

Although Billy34-kit has perhaps some valid problems he's been with this airline for 5 minutes and frankly he's the last person entitled to complain. You Scan on the other hand have nothing to do with GF, you are retired you had a good career in GF (as I've been advising others) and now I fail to see what role you're attempting to persue.

I or GF owe you nothing more than a thank you for the years of commitment to the airline. That does not entitle you to demand investigations and results from anyone. Good day to you sir.

Frankly I'm sick and tired of all you tossers who bitch and whine about eveything. Grow up you're supposed to be professionals and all I see here on Pprune in the usual whining like little girls.
What kind of image are you portraying to the general public who pay good money to trust their lives to us. You are a discrace to the profession and I for one don't want to assosiate myself to you.
Enough is enough you are a bunch of whiners and you have no place in a flight deck. Thats not what I fell in love with when I was a kid, I looked up to professional aviators, if you were my mentors then boy was I disillusioned.

Pilots have something to bitch about at every airline, doesn't matter whether it's at BA or at CX or at GF... Just part of the job culture!
And when we arrive at the end of the rainbow, we'll all look back and say: "Gee...what was that all about?"

Capt.Snails,
You sound like an arrogant man and I'm glad I've never stepped into a cockpit with someone like yourself.

You must be lonely, however, very impressed with yourself in the mirror or standing lonely at some bar counter.

Why look for praise here, can't you get it elsewhere?

Most of us are bloody lucky that we're not not in Billy's shoes.

For someone who says he would be the harshist critic, Quote"If our management don't deliver what they have promised I will be their harshest critic but lets first of all give them a chance." end quote.

Most of us look deep into this and can't find the truth! You have not help your fellow kind, you're a Company man who loves to stand on his own kind, just to be seen.

Tough Man!!!

Not saying this to "stir" the pot.. a valid question I have....

I am an air traffic controller in Bahrain and a collegue took a flight OMAA to EGLL A332 not sure when. He was able to ride in the flight deck for a while... and made a few observations.

1. Not once did either of the pilots wear the headset, not even while shooting the approach at EGLL

2. When he entered the cockpit, one of the pilots was not there, the other was sitting facing sideways with food trays all over the consoles and had newspapers covering all the windows. He said.. it's blocks the sun out.

Now as a controller, I would like to think that if I need to contact an aircraft quickly I would have an attentive crew on the other end.

As a traveller, I would hope to have 2 professionals in the front paying attention.

Please tell me this is not standard practise? Tell me this doesn't happen ...

Gulf Air Impressions

Just my 2 cents on this topic...

Joined GFA 3 months ago. I`m quite happy and satified about GFA and living in Bahrain. All my salaries were deposited on time and all the allowances paid.
Of course mistakes and misunderstandings happen, but it seems that everyone is trying to make it the right way.
I would second what capt. Snails already said. Seems that James Hogan is really trying to boost this airline. I have some expectations about my carreer here. Of course they might be frustrated but that`s life!
Anyway, I speak only for myself and as I said before, I`m quite satisfied here, so, personally, I would recommend you applying for GFA. BUT, if you get pissed very easily and cannot get used to things happening in a slower pace, this is not the place for you.

Best Regards!

Where were you b4 GF. I'm wondering how it effects your perspective about GF. I have my app in there, so I'm trying to get a feel for the place.

Devil

Krotch,

the schooling allowance is not good. you get 850 BD per year per child for primary, higher for secondary. It depends on how old your kids are. my 7 and 8 year olds cost 700 BD odd a term each, 3 terms a year. you can work it out from there. That is for british schools, the american schools I believe are more expensive. In Abu Dhabi/ Dubai, 767, the schools are more expensive and very large waiting lists on most schools. The school fees go up every year, the allowance does not. If you are an FO it is a large chunk out of your pay.

Cheers

NTM -

I just read your 26 Jan rundown on conditions at GF and thanks for the thorough post. One question: I read elsewhere that some GF pilots live in Dubai and commute to AbuDhabi. Is that a doable thing? I have friends in Dubai, and it seems like a somewhat more liveable city.

pilotusa,
waiting to hear from GF on my application

Quite a few here...one hour drive from door to airport on a 4 lane speedway (!) no problems for those who do it and living accom here much lower ($$) than in Abu Dhabi.

Like Left Coaster said, quite a few guys guys are doing it.
I don't know about percentage but I would dare to say it is almost the majority of the cockpit crews..
I am too lazy to move out of the hotel. But you never know ...

FACT EVERYBODY - Bagshaw Crusher is a FAILED F/O on GF 320 and never stopped whinging from the day he arrived til the day he left. ( and they say the pomms are whingers!) He could not fit in and I doubt he will make it in his new company also. He lasted about 6 months and ran away when he got his rating renewed. Destined to be an aviation tramp all his career I'm afraid. Take his posts with a large pinch of salt. GF is like any other airline of it's size and type. Times are good right now with salary going up and the promise of a lot of fleet transfers in the next few months. In fact things are very happy on the 320, so much so that at least three ex-pat upgrades to 330/340 have been refused, by the guys concerned, on the grounds that life is better on 320.

I'd agree. life is on the up here. commands coming through. expansion, pay rises. i've had a few in the last 3 years. the exchange rate is killing it a bit but that will change in time. Bahrain is as safe as anywhere else. life is sweet.

Depends on what "management position" you're being interviewed for sweetheart ..........................."Bahrain can be a fun place, if you have the right guide" (God I loved that movie !)....................................just remember your "Mohammad is NO different !" and you'll be just fine.

Speaking as a married chap with kids (8 & 9), this place is bloody fantastic. I don't go out clubbing but I am fond of a good posh feed, and you're spoilt for good restaurants. Alcohol widely available. The law only forbids the sale of booze to Muslims. You obviously don't walk around the streets with a tin in your hand. It gets v. hot in July and August (most families go elsewhere this time of year) but the rest of the year is nice. You can get into all watersports (sea temp here at the moment is 32 degrees) and there are some good clubs with nice artificial beaches.

Personally, I have found the Bahrainis to be very nice, liberal and considerate people. A stark contrast to their Saudi neighbours. Women can drive and generally go about. It is a Muslim country, so a little respect is in order : my wife wouldn't walk about the malls with short skirt and uncovered shoulders, but some do. You wouldn't get 5 paces in Saudi before you found yourself in jail. Driving can be sporty but it's good compared to lots of other places around here, and I've seen worse in France and Spain.

I also feel quite safe here. There has been none of the unpleasantness that's occurred in Saudi and I would be surprised if it came here. Most Bahrainis take the view that expats are generally here to contribute, be you a Bangladeshi road worker or management like yourself. There are moves afoot for Bahrainisation to try and get more young Bahrainis out of unemployment with quotas and suchlike.

So from my perspective, nice country by the sea, friendly people, no rain and tax-free. AND I enjoy my job.
