Equivalence between DGAC and CAA 1st class ?

Hi there,

I would like to know if that's possible to be granted a JAA/CAA Class 1 medical certificate, from a french JAA/DGAC Class 1 certificate, by a kind of equivalence ?

Or I have to apply for an admission, actually ?

Salut!

Think that it's acceptable because they're both JAA states. Could be wrong though!

Technically I don't think the standard CAA class 1 medical is now 100% JAA compliant since the CAA have stopped doing the EEG. It says on the website that some authorities may need the EEG to be carried out before they will accept it.

my concern was about getting a JAA/CAA 1 class medical as an equivalence from a JAA/DGAC (french) 1 class medical that i currently hold.
As the CAA does not perform EEG anymore and the DGAC will certainly hold into it for a moment; i can understand the DGAC not recognizing the CAA 1 class medical; but my concern is about CAA recognizing my DGAC 1 class medical.
Since the CAA perform less tests than the DGAC, i hope that they will recognize my medical.
But that is "my" logic and maybe we will need to wait, to see what our legislator's logic is.

ah I see what you are trying to do. The CAA here will accept any JAA class 1 medical. I myself had a German LBA JAA Class 1 which I have now converted to a UK CAA medical.

However you need to know that you are only allowed to hold one JAA medical and licence at a time so you cannot have both French and UK.

I'm not planning on getting 2 medicals or licences, one should be enough
Let me describe my position and give you a better idea of why i made my original question posting.
I would like to prepare the JAA ATPL written and then convert my FAA Commercial into JAA licence.
So the first step was to verify that i was fit for JAA regulation, which i did (sucessfully) close to home, in france.
Next step, was to find the best possible ATPL ground school provider; since most all of my aeronautical knowledge was gained in the US; i quickly came to realise that it would be wiser to stick to Shakespeare original language, which brought me across the Channel in CAA territory.
And finally the question arised: Will they accept my JAA/DGAC class 1 medical or will i need to go for their own medical and spend another hefty amount of money, just to be told (again) that i'm good for service.
Maybe i'm a tortured mind, but i like to know the in's and out's of things.
thank you for your reply.

I imagine that the FAA to JAA commercial might be expensive! Do you have to do the whole IR again!??

Converting the commercial From FAA to JAA require:
- the full ATPL written to complete before anything else.
- there is no minimum flight time to train for the commercial, if you are up to speed you could go tomorow (but 5 to 10 hours is more realistic)
- the instrument require a minimum of 15 hours, of which 10 hours can be done in a simulator (20 to 25 hours to be realistic)
And depending in your experience ( hours in multi crew or heavy jet) those requirements can be different.
I personnaly have logged 1900 hours on fixed wing, mostly instruction.
Having contacted a few schools in England, i am planning for the all practical training (cpl, insrument, multi) to set me back of about £9000 (€13500) to be realistic.
That is the price i have to pay to work in europe
