Wizzair
will have plenty of pilots with A380 experience willing to fly a A320 in the desert 🐫 for 7000-8000Euros in short term.

Medium to Long term that is another history...
Let see what happen in 2021.

Also what it makes better a pilot that you don’t know to be hired that a pilot that worked for you years and years... I think they should appericiate and reconsider to rehired most of the pilots fired. Only if you have a huge problem with the company, I mean something really serious then avoid that pilots.

but the rest generally speaking I saw the list and in my opinion most of them 90% I would say they are good people and proffesionals.
is stupid to avoid rehire a pilot because one day he had a bad day in the sim, an argue with a colleague, sick days and stuff like this...
we all are humans and if they think that taking external pilots they will not have such problem they are wrong!!

I doubt that 20% of the crew were troublemakers. I know a lot of them as good people. If they were good enough to fly from Keflavik or Chisinau or Odessa or Skopje or Memmingen or Bodo or Trondheim or Turku in the winter the majority of them could have managed AUH somehow...

Has anyone got the previous experience form to open? Just says loading........ on my application

Try Chrome, think it said something about it being the best browser.

Pilots who were made redundant will have to do ATPL+Simulator assesment again together with psychological interview due to EASA regulation. If successful, they will get a job offer. They were told to have priority for applications.

A320LGW 11th Jul 2020 00:19

This company seem intent on pulling stunt after stunt.

First of all the letting go of 300 people. The announcing new aircraft deliveries. Then announcing 'new bases'. Now announcing all but a new airline and they're hiring for everything from cadet entry to rated commanders.

I wish to have no part to play in this charade and I do not envy those applying. What is happening is disgusting to be frank.

What EASA regulation requires assessment of candidates to be held in any specific format? I thought it was down to company policy as to whether they will do a theoretical written exam, an HR interview, a sim screening, a chat with the Chief Pilot or a combination of the aforementioned. Maybe in the case of Wizz air it has something to do with insurance, i.e. only candidates who have passed this and that before signing a contract are insured to fly the aircraft?

jadrolinija 11th Jul 2020 11:00

This is what was written in a "letter to pilots":

Q10) Do I need to undergo an assessment, like ATPL exam and simulator ride?

A10) Yes, all new hires must undergo the pilot recruitment process due to internal regulations
and from 15th of July, also due to EASA Psychological assessment requirements.
We also wish to emphasize that the process is not intended to put you in an uncomfortable
position by any means and will be adjusted to your Wizz Air experience as far as practicable.
You will be informed in due course."

I've seen similar before, do not be discouraged. It's the human nature of people in HR getting the better of them.

At daring times like these, when firing and recruiting happen en-masse as the company navigates changing tides (epmuphemism for rudderless) they try to do their absolute best. Feeling as if the weight of the whole corporation future stands on their shoulders, it is almost unavoidable to end up overcomplicating things and running in circles.

Feeling of self-importance, especially when partially true, and trying too hard is never conductive to creating reasonable solutions.

Happens to pilots too, there'd be no foul play. Just erraticism under pressure.

Also, can anyone please explain how the holding pool system works? Is it going to be a holding pool for the entire WZZ group, for one specific AOC (Hungary/UK/UAE) or for specific bases?

Flying Clog 11th Jul 2020 12:08

I totally agree that pilots joining Wizz should be given an EASA psychological assessment first, to assess whether they are desperate/destitute or just plain mad. Those are two different sides of the coin.

Regarding Wizz Abu Dhabi, don't even bother. You would have to be both desperate AND mad as hatter to go even go there..

PilotLZ 11th Jul 2020 12:46

If all pilots came from the leading economies of Europe and lived in areas where numerous employment opportunities existed, then probably the interest wouldn't have been so high. But remember that in many areas where Wizz air operate, it's either the only opportunity for a local pilot or one of two or three. Many of those countries don't even have a legacy carrier any more - think Hungary or North Macedonia as examples. Does this sound like the local pilots being spoiled for choice where to go?

Pearlharbour 11th Jul 2020 14:47

local pilots have a EASA Licence like expats. Of course they can go other airlines in Asia, India. Also they can go Western Europe low cost airlines. I don’t see the problem.
maybe they want to stay at home in their country but within the Europe Union they have the same options

Banana Joe 11th Jul 2020 16:06

I don't know what you're talking about, but being in a different country than home even if still in the EU is not home to me. It doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for many others including me, that's fine. The truth is that for some this option works given the individual's circumstances.

PilotLZ 11th Jul 2020 18:34

Precisely what I meant with my previous post. I'm not saying that globally there are no suitable jobs for someone coming from any of the countries where Wizz air have their bases. I'm saying that jobs in their home countries are often few and far between. And, if someone is not willing or not in a position to relocate (e.g. due to family) - often Wizz air is either the only option for them or one of a few.

It may have changed amongst all this, but it was just one big pool for the entire Wizz group. They had bases which they claimed were “impossible to get” (Luton, Budapest, Warsaw and Vienna), and you could ask to be put in a pool specifically for those bases. But, the wait could be over a year for a spot to open. It was just a case of getting the congratulatory phone call to say you’ve passed the selection, with a follow up email outlining a dozen or so bases you could choose from. You chose one, and days later you had a contract and a start date.

This Abu Dhabi thing is all new to me, so I’m guessing they have gaps to plug there, and at some of their newer bases. Then they just want their pool filled to the brim with people ready to go at a moment’s notice to any base they should need. So my bet would be if you get into the pool, it will just be a random phone call at a random time, for a random base, and it will be take it or leave it.

There’s a bit of skullduggery going on, granted. But still, the opening of recruitment can only be regarded as positive. The faintest light at the end of a very long tunnel.

PilotLZ 12th Jul 2020 08:43

Thank you for the valuable and detailed insight. So, basically, an applicant now can expect either AUH or one of the somewhat less popular European bases. Possibly also one of those opening in the autumn, i.e. BCM or LED, unless there are already enough internal volunteers for them.

Which will diminish soon unfortunately if CEE countries start to announce the second round of travel limitations. Wizz will have no problem pulling the trigger yet again if things go south.

vlieger 12th Jul 2020 09:29

This is the million dollar question indeed. Many who survived the first cull are undoubtedly very worried a second one could still happen, and Varadi will be ruthless, make no mistake about it.

PilotLZ 12th Jul 2020 09:48

It's everyone's question what is going to happen in 1, 3 or 6 months from now. Before we even talk about possible new travel restrictions, there are still many unresolved cases within the current situation. Especially concerning origin-destination pairs between EU and non-EU countries - and those account for a big chunk of the route network. As of now, most of the time you can see 60-80 Wizz air flights being active on FR24. Which is 50-65% of the total aircraft number. Which way it's going to go in the near future - nobody knows for sure.
